Couple of things though - shouldn't the logo link lead to the forum home? And from the Home page, tapping the Forum tab doesn't lead to the main forum page.
Why would it?
It links to the home/landing page.
Surely that's expected?

Well, there's an AdminCP option for the logo to link to either the home page or main forum page. I have it set to the main forum page.
The wording is slightly misleading for that option:
What it actually does is link to the index page, which is whatever is set in the Index Page Route field.
That is a core XenForo function though, nothing to do with this add-on.

My FT "link" has disappeared from the menu nav.....I have changed no settings and followed upgrade instructions for 2.5.

never mind, I had to finish the process, it hung up for some reason, it is there now.

Ah - it does work on my desktop, just not on my iPad. Not sure if it's due to the browser, responsive display on a mobile device, or what.

The only thing stopping me right is that I would loose XenMediaGallery on the front page. I definitely want to.

You don't have to have FT as your home/front page.
@DaiAku already owns a license @Azhria Lilu, I think what he means is he doesn't want to lose the XMG random media block which is currently at the top of the forum list page.
If so, there's no issue there, you can just include the xengallery_media_block_forum_list template in the cta_featuredthreads_featured template.
