CTA Featured Threads & Portal

CTA Featured Threads & Portal [Paid] 2.17.0

No permission to buy (£40.00)
@Liam W made a post if you look back through widget framework on adding the new posts widget to sidebar on this portal.
No, Liam explained how to add the New Posts widget to Widget Framework, it's not dependent on you are using this add-on. You also have to edit a PHP file to get it to work properly as Widget Framework hasn't been updated for ages.

I've used this opportunity to dump Widget Framework. I just need to get around to adding the XFMG sidebar media block and work out how to add Who Is Online Recently to the portal page and I'm done. :)

Hey @Brogan

I am not sure if enough people have asked for this, but categorized FT pages would be very very useful. Those kind of pages are preferred by SE - and being abled to have FT pages by category seems like a HUGE step in helping your customers (me :)) get some additional Google love.

It has been suggested once or twice but never in any detail as to how to achieve it or what benefit it would serve.

As such I don't have any plans to add anything like that.

Not true. I tried to help lay it out for you and go beyond a simple suggestion. You weren't keen on discussing further going so far to label my efforts as vague - which is your prerogative of course.

  • Sidebar addition showing categories created (via a setting in ACP).
  • When manually featuring ability to use drop-down to select category.
  • Automatically featured can be edited to include a category or set one by default.
  • Click a category adds all threads with that category into that section.
  • If possibly multiple categories so it shows the thread in different ones.
Something like that I guess but no clue if it would do anything for SEO or what not. Are you open to having it developed if funded?

As an example of what CATEGORIES would look like. But rather than trying to understand, you called the discussion vague and that was the end of it - made me feel like I was wasting my time trying to explain with the speed you dismissed the brief exchange.

Allow (to start) admins to 'create' 2-5 categories. Add an option when manually featuring a thread to specify a category.

On the CTA homepage:it. You

if slider, show
if cat 1 not empty, loop through and show featured threads with catid = 1
if cat 2 not empty, loop through and show featured threads with catid = 2
etc

each 'section' can be styled using css

Say you wanted to visually have your home page with a slider, then a couple of featured threads with icons and then the rest with no graphics - just text/links

You could use a category system to do this automatically.

That is a use case.

You could recreate the look and functionality of say www.cnn.com with a category addition.

I don't know how I could have explained it better.

Not looking for a pissing match but I really don't like it when things get misrepresented.

IMHO of course.

That you did. But that's not all you said.

Agree to disagree. At the end of the day, it's your product to develop as you see fit.

Looking for a little help regarding the 'Error | M3 Leagues' it is showing when trying to share to Facebook. I've tried a few things with searching out why .. but to no avail. Thank you -

Is it easy enough to edit the position of the sidebar blocks? I also use a modified staff block as attached, I assume just replacing the default staff one from xenforo can replicate what my widget framework one does?

Also, I am trying to get the portal styled a bit better, not going to add a background image but any ideas? Not quite sure I like how the title looks. And we have different theme colours, I just use the blue one.

I use this as a home page/portal with a "HOME" tab. How do I remove the secondary menu "featured threads" from the FORUM page? It's redundant and takes you to the same place home does.
