XF 2.0 Create a new Advertising position?

Is there a method for creating a new position in the Advertising system?

The manual contains no mention of the Advertising system that I can find.

Is there another resource that anyone knows of?

Creating advertising positions would generally be an add-on level action, so it is only exposed as part of the development tools.

If you wish to display advertising in a custom location, then we would simply recommend putting the code directly in the desired location.

That limits it a fair bit. As noted in other threads, seems to be a simple design just for people who want to drop in AdSense or in-house ads?

We are finding we have to mash up the Ad system as provided with extra included templates. Not ideal. Though I hated that the new update wiped all old ad templates, the Ad system is good for tracking what ads are on site and disabling ads if needed. Hiding some of the ads in template hacks breaks that model.
