So best not to delete the folder in the future and just upload and replace the files already there
It would appear this is what Rambro did too.

Anytime you upgrade anything, you don't delete the existing files. You should just overwrite what is already there. I mean, do you delete your complete XenForo install when upgrading it? I hope not! ;)

Wise words
Glad it's clear now and it might help others now we know how that file comes into play

No, I didn't delete it. What I did do was overwrite the folders with my FTP program. This normally causes no problems. What you should have is some sort of warning in both the user notes and resource description not to do this, but to instead ALWAYS MERGE THE DATA FOLDER.

I've never seen an option to 'Merge' folders in an FTP program. At least none that I've used. Thanks for letting me know such an option exists in some FTP programs.

Any FTP program I've used simply uploads the new data, overwrites what exists and leaves anything that doesn't exist in the upload alone on the server.

It sounds like the overwrite function in your FTP program deletes any existing content, that could destroy any add-on that stores data in the data folder.

Replace effectively removes the original folder and puts the new one in its place. Merge takes the files with older dates in folders and replaces them with the ones that have newer dates. Had I known the file was added in after the fact and not contained in the download zip I would never have used the Replace option.

What I will do is add a trap to prevent a complete site crash if the database doesn't exist. That will allow everything to continue working and allow the admin to update the system without a site crash.

But I would strongly suggest you use Merge whenever updating anything. In your case, doing anything else has the potential of destroying just about any working installation of anything.

@Snog - just on a quick once over, I have the same issue with the flag not lining up as before after the upgrade, same fix? Also, why is Switzerland's flag so small? Only one I noticed thus far.

Snog doesn't have any control on the flags which are pulled in via ISPs
Im not quite sure I understand, they are not just identified as what a country a member is from and pulled from a sprite file with a preloaded image of that countries flag?

He Snog,

please name your zip-file with an version explain like name_1.3.1.zip. :) That way the most developers name her add-ons. And we can fastly see witch version we have saved... ;)

Oh, hang on... Perhaps I did. I vaguely remember something, but for the life of me can't remember what...

Which is the best button to click to sort this?
