Okay, still messed up on 1.7.2 and @The Dark Wizard is going to try the conversation table to fix it from 2 1/2 hours ago (hour backups).

Really just run "select count (*) from xf_conversation_user where user_id = your_id" and see if you have more conversations in the db than you can see.

I am using these exact same add-ons and now I'm scared of updating to 1.8.0 from 1.7.2.
Please let me know if you guys can find the problem with Daniel

The thing that strikes me as even more odd is that your messages seem entirely messed up, the users in it don't match up, etc. And the whole add on seems to be working flawlessly on TAZ.

I am not sure what is going on. I only even noticed it when a user pointed it out and saw half of my own messages (including the 71 page one with him) had gone. I've asked Max to look into it and pointed him here.

Just to keep everyone posted, @Zynephix has reverted his site back to 1.7.2 and had minimal data lost thanks to @The Dark Wizard. They have set some test boards up so I can see exactly what happened.

I took a risk and updated. I felt it must had been a rare occurrence in Zynephix's case.
Result: update to 1.8.0 went smoothly and all conversations seem to be available as expected.

Out of interest, you said you were using the other plugins I used. Did you do the Execution Order modification? It probably makes no difference but that is the only adjustment I made. I have been updated Conversation Essentials since April without issue other than that Execution Order modification.
My active site is working fine and Daniel is going to look into the test website that The Dark Wizard has configured to find the issue.

Yes, I have both Andy's New User Conversation as well as BassMan's Conversation button under avatar addons installed as well. I don't have other conversation related addon's installed besides those and Conversation Essentials.
No, I haven't done any modifications to them (I'm not even aware of what this Execution Order modification's purpose is).
My XF version is 1.4.8 if that makes a difference. Andy and BassMan's plugins latest versions as well.

Ah right, it seems that execution order modification is only needed if using the "overlay" option in BassMan's add-on. I have that disabled so that the conversation button opens in a regular page, not in an overlay. So that's why I haven't found the need for the execution order modification.
Anyway, I'm interested to hear what caused the problem on your forum, hopefully it will be figured out. And I'm happy you were able to restore a recent backup.
