Clip The Apex

The site has undergone quite a few changes since I last posted on this thread.

I did away with the Page node we were using as a home page (partly due to the time it took to update it and partly because it was never used) and also moved the site to the root.
I originally installed it in the /community directory anticipating having to keep the root free for a portal/home page, but it's not necessary.

The site is fully responsive, including our custom Overtaking and FF1 add-ons, apart from the Race Hub which doesn't really work in low widths, so those pages have been forced to a fixed width, even when the fluid style has been selected.

For some time I have been toying with the idea of having a hybrid home page/forum index, rather than a dedicated home page which I found that almost all of my members never visited.
Sort of the best of both worlds.

So as a basic start, I have started featuring certain threads above the node list, similar to how portals promote them on the home page.
While it is a manual template at the moment, it does select randomly on each page load from a list.
I will look at getting this developed into an add-on if it turns out to be popular with the members.

The featured thread is nice, liking that. I'm assuming that is an exclusive add-on? looks good. Out of curiosity is that a forum icon or users avatar in the featured thread?

It's just a template at the moment but I hope to develop it into an add-on.

That's the avatar on the left, it behaves the same way as a thread avatar so clicking it will bring up the member card.

Nice one. I actually like that alot, liking it more in the direction your going with it. I have to admit I much prefer the members avatar like you've done and opening the membercard. Layout of it is uncluttered and ordered perfectly. (y)

Awesome man just awesome! I have a couple questions:

1. Your featured thread is one of the best ideas ever, especially for promoting advertising etc. Would be awesome to have like 1-3 featured threads. Is there a eta for a addon? I would definitely donate for that one.

2. What ad block template is your square ad listed right of the 1st post here: http://cliptheapex.com/threads/€100-000-jacks-up-the-ante-in-pit-stop-wars.6492/

3. I noticed you have a adsense section, is that a resource addon? I like that a lot better than what I am using right now.

1. No ETA at the moment. I was actually planning on learning to develop and create it myself, so it could be some time :D

2. ad_message_body

3. I don't understand. Can you rephrase/clarify?

Sure, in this thread inbetween the posts there is a adsense ad with a adsense avatar - it says to login in order to not see the ad.

As for the ad_message_body, does it automatically align right or do I need to edit the code?

I see that you have the same issue that I noticed on my site with quotes in the first post. While the text moves over for the ad the quote box does not. Ever look into seeing what it'd take to fix?

That's just me being an idiot.

That's actually a custom bb code, not a quote, but I omitted to add overflow:auto to it.
Sorted now.

@Brogan, I really like that random thread bit at the top!

This, combined with another idea I've read where we'd use icons rather than the current node list, would make for a really nice landing page for the forum. I wish I had the know-how (and patience!) to make it all work...

:eek:o_O

Could be relatively simple in nature. I'm sure you will have trouble finding help on creating that one. lol

I like it tho, looks good.

The featured thread bit is pretty awesome. I was thinking of something like this as well. I'm not into portals on forums anymore but it's nice to feature a thread that way.

I started working on the add-on yesterday but have no idea how long it's going to take due to a) lack of time and b) zero knowledge of developing/php.
I never would have guessed. I'm sure it will turn out good. I need to stop slacking and learn all this zend framework stuff so I can do some mods.
