Maybe old news, but I thought the vid was pretty neat, and I normally don't get get too worked up about videos.

An interesting question came to mind as I watched this. Does every culture really want democracy and personal liberty or are there cultures that prefer strong, centralized leadership - not necessarily dictatorship? Is the benevolent dictator possible or a contradiction of terms?

What is the just alternative to democracy? It seems to me that democracy fails when public servants become career politicians and when wealth (or the lack of it) decided who can serve and who hasn't the means, even though they might embody the true meaning of service over self-service?

If these questions can't be answered, then humanity will never be able to live together peacefully and we are ultimately doomed.
