How do i make it so the image size or type isn't restricted please?

In the user group permissions, set 'Maximum large avatar file size (bytes)' to unlimited.

On the attachments options page if gif doesn't work then ImageMagick PECL Extension needs to be set I think?

Curious to know if the allowed attachment file extensions works for avatars myself.

There are no configurable options related to the file type.
Any valid image (png, jpg, gif) should work.

There's no configuration over type. It must be GIF, JPG or PNG.
