XF 1.5 Censoring a word to be a user mention

I want to "censor" some words or phrases to do an @ mention of a user or group. I tried just replacing it with the @ and user name and also the bbcode of it but that doesn't actually mention them. Is this a limitation that is something that can be overcome?

I can censor words and phrases into emojis so I figured I could do bbcode as well.

No, this won't work. Censoring is explicitly a run time thing and very much not designed for this. It would likely require an add-on to do what you want.

I figured it was something like that. I just thought that maybe since it worked with emojis that it might.

Is that something that might be looked at all for XF2.x or just not enough interest I bet.
