IB is not a threat, that term implies no action has yet occurred. Vb has been on a self destructive course for at least 30 months . At one time there was no real competition, yet the fact that they started this litigation points an arrow directly at the real contender and threat to the position on the pedestal of top dog in forum software. The biggest threat to vB isBob BriscoIB. But rather than admitting that, IB instead chose to take out their incompetence on the new kid on the block.
In short, it's manifestly clear that there isn't any copyright issue. IB hasn't been able to point to anything that is infringement other than making an allegation for the sake of lawsuit. That much is manifestly clear. I'm more worried about the apocalypse predicted for later this year than I am about this issue.Say IB does win. What happens to the US customers as it sounds like anyone but the US may be fine pending the UK court results?

I'll take my chances with the apocalypse over dealing with Kier's problem with IB any dayIn short, it's manifestly clear that there isn't any copyright issue. It depends entirely on the judge's judgement really. They could cease sales in the US. I'm not sure if they can prevent existing license holders from running it (I'd imagine not).I'll take my chances with the apocalypse over dealing with Kier's problem with IB any day
So...does this mean if I buy a license now, and the verdict rains in against xF...what does that mean for me as a US license holder? Do I have to convert to a different system? Do I just not get anymore updates from xF?
It means we become xF Underground >_>...............and make a forum revolution!I'll take my chances with the apocalypse over dealing with Kier's problem with IB any day

Unfortunately so.Yeah...well this is America. Bad guys win in court all the time with minimal, questionable "proof".
But, as the old saying goes, just because somebody wins a battle doesn't mean that they've also won the war. No matter what happens with either lawsuit, I, and I think it would be safe to say, others along with me, will no longer be vBulletin customers when this is all done & over with.Yeah...well this is America. Even assuming the worst, it is highly unlikely that any verdict would conclude that any copyright infringement took place - the only smoke and mirrors keeping this lawsuit up seems to be business related issues, e.g. non-compete, non-disclosure. As such, your license would not be affected. I'd sooner place a large bet that the Dolphins are going to win the Super Bowl in 2012. If I was in any way concerned, I wouldn't have bought several licenses and plan on adding a few more... some of which will show how not worried I am about copyright issues.So...does this mean if I buy a license now, and the verdict rains in against xF...what does that mean for me as a US license holder? "All the time"? Then you should be able to cite some examples.Yeah...well this is America. Bad guys win in court all the time with minimal, questionable "proof".
I would take a stab at it saying this...XenForo is the answer for a lot of people who had questions for years asking when they were going to get something reliable that just works. People defend what they love.I wish I could explain why I and others feel so passionately about this lawsuit,
Sorry, I didn't think I had to speak 100% literal. We all know our court system is quite corrupt. It's almost bad as paypal and letting scammers win disputes and honest businessmen and women suffer because of it."All the time"? Then you should be able to cite some examples.
I agree, its pretty obvious that no direct copying took place, the onus, as I understand it, comes down to IB prooving that Kier & Mike used the development ideas for the vb4 rewrite that never happened for the basis of XenForo. This is where it gets technical.Even assuming the worst, it is highly unlikely that any verdict would conclude that any copyright infringement took place - the only smoke and mirrors keeping this lawsuit up seems to be business related issues, e.g. non-compete, non-disclosure.
