Hi,

Since yesterday, seeing a “Checking your browser” page before my site loads. I did not intentionally add this myself and I don't want it

Solution
Yes worth noting that submitting a ticket when you face an issue will get more eyes on it more quickly than posting on the forum.

This forum isn’t the correct support avenue for live support issues that are affecting the Cloud service.

Same here. I suspect it's got something to do with Cloudflare attempting to mitigate the hordes of bots flooding XF forums as of late.

Whatever the case, we've also been experiencing this incredibly frustrating verification check annoyance with certain browsers when trying to reach our cloud hosted site since yesterday too, and we definitely didn't enable anything like this on Cloudflare.

And apparently we can no longer reach the site at all with DDG thanks to an endless verification check loop—(*similar to what's been occuring frequently while trying to navigate this XF community forum site and making it almost impossible to use for at least a month so far... though significantly worse).

However, on top of that we're also experiencing persistent cripplingly slow page loading delays—in addition to frequent timeouts—with all browsers when navigating our site.

No idea what the cause is or how to resolve it, but like you we didn't enable this nonsense nor do we want to deal with it either, and frankly we're seriously concerned for the severe detriment this will almost certainly lead to if continuing unabated.

I did mention same assumption of this being new XF Cloud feature here:

Well, whatever the cause and seeing as no one seems to know definitively nor has anyone of authority bothered keeping everyone in the loop, at this stage the feral guest-bot hordes would be far more preferable because at least we could still freely access our site on any browser and without the bonus of pervasive page load lag/timeouts.

just noticed potential downside to this "new feature"

URL links posted in threads unfurl into "Checking browser" links.... have to manually modify URL to update links to your liking

Hard to believe. XF activated "under attack mode" on this forum on June, 15th, which led to a lot of CF "I am a human" captchas - pretty annoying but not really making it "impossible to use". This was massively lowered some time last week to the current levels - still there sometimes, but works pretty smoothly instead of being totally annoying.
So in fact the timeframe was less than two weeks, not, as you claim "at least a month so far". Telling made up fake stories does not help when trying to debug technical topics...

So how do we go about disabling that? I don't care about cloudflare
If you are on XF Cloud, don't have configured Cloudflare yourself and have all of a sudden this behavior that you don't know where it comes from I'd suggest opening a support ticket with XF. The forums here are "just" the community support forums and XF staff has come to the habit to rarely answer or participate in discussions.

As this seems to be caused by a configuration made by XF for XF cloud a support ticket seems the best solution. Please report back the root cause/outcome.

It's also blocking/interfering with all tools and services that need to access my site normally... even Discord no longer embeds the links from my site. This's a game breaker

On my site it looks like it was turned off, all bots are showing back online and the checking browser notice appears to be gone.

For now.... until they fix it I guess

I do have my doubts that XF would have configured CF for all XF Cloud instances as this would be a bit weird technically. The more, as I think a bunch of Cloud customers may have configured CF already independently themselves and a "double Cloudflare" config would sound even more weird.

So possibly it is something different, either homegrown by XF or 3rd party, to ease up the server load from bots. In principle a very good and long overdue thing - however: Implementing something like that with the obvious consequences and collateral damage it brings and not even notifying the customers proactively (let alone to give them the choice) and also not to react to trouble-reports in the customer forum seems a whole new level of ignorance an non-communication by a company that has a tradition of being horribly at communication.

Did you open a support ticket or did it magically vanish w/o you doing anything?
Did you check wether there are any settings in the XF Cloud config / APC for that?

It’s not really about communication, although these changes will be communicated once it is relevant to do so. I have personally been working, or at least on call, 24/7/365 for over 12-18 months constantly having to deal with the repercussions from the type of issues you see talked about here:

We are in the process of implementing measures to prevent this kind of issue and, despite being in testing for a number of weeks, some unexpected issues arose that were correctly reported to us by @MapleOne and have since been resolved.

As the product develops further, there may be occasional rough edges or issues arising while we tune the behaviours needed to keep our customer's forums running smoothly.

In the meantime, for immediate service affecting issues, please submit a ticket and we will look into the specifics.

Chris

Hmm, I'd have guessed when rolling out a massive change that might affect customer's forums communication would be relevant.

We all have, some more, some less, as you can see in the thread you linked. Until now the collective perception was XF would completely ignore the issue, despite it is the thing that seems the most important and dominating topic for basically all forum owners now.
On the one hand: Kudos, that you finally do something against the bots. On the other hand: Seems that you act pretty much as a one-man-army, the last man standing at XenForo, trying to safe the world singlehandedly. You work on 2.4, you fix bugs, you do support, you build a bot-fighting-thing, you do the official communication, you answer to pings on the forum and possibly a couple of other things more - does neither sound healthy nor effective but rather overloaded and fragmented. I mean: XF is a small company, but honestly: Where is the other staff and what are they doing? Wouldn't it be responsible, given the improved financial situation through XF Cloud, to employ someone to get some relief for you and some progress in the roadmap?

Will this be Cloud exclusive or will other customers be able to profit from that as well?
