I noticed (on a xenforo demo) that BBCode works within code tags.

[code=rich] is intended to show rendered bbcode. The point is you can format the code block with BBcode:

Code block with bold, italic and fancy text.

Choose another language option if you don't want the bbcode to render into rich text.
