Add-on Arcade

I think we are just giving our opinion on how several of us don't consider $1k a fair price for a project that size. Conceded this opinion come from developers that have some addons to prove their worth (e.g, e.g., e.g.), it is a fair and valid point.

It is nice to hear that you found a developer that is willing to do it for the price you want. I feel if said developer comes across this thread he will be discouraged from whatever he/she is charging you, but that is my opinion. I do realize you are not hiring us, which doesn't stop me from commenting on the fact that I personally think that you are ripping off said developer or risking yourself to a really low quality product (once the developer realizes the projects is huge, he would either try to renegotiate the price, or rush things to deliver whatever, in such a way that you would not notice: missed validations, lack of testing, bad integration, edge cases skipped, or a bunch of things hardcoded making the mod impossible to scale up or develop further).

Actually, this thread could've been steered in a different direction, I was suggesting that we did a crowdfunding strategy because I am also interested in a good arcade mod, and I am personally willing to shell out money for it. If we get 20 people each doing $100 then the mod can be developed at a price that is fair for the developer. There are services that take the money as escrow and don't release it until the product is delivered, which is a good model for this, it locks the money for the developer but prevents him from running away without delivering.

Don't shop for cheap developers, because this happens.

You are my new favourite person. :)

Actually.... It is because of this thread and the replies that I have the current developer.

Adam,

You can post this there if you want. Code is fun for me and I enjoy doing these kinds of projects. Not just for a living, but the challenge in which it involves.

More money does not equal or guarantee quality and I really would like to help drive that idea.

^ Fairly priced does not mean "cheap" and it would seem I am not alone in that thinking.

I believe a lot of people will be surprised who is helping me upon the release.

Thank you :)

lol interesting ! I would suggest whoever took the project to tag the license price to $80-100 depending on their hours/work they will be putting on it . I bet those who are in need of Arcade won't mind buying it for that fair price until it's supported and deal with their customers nicely .

But going through whole thread it's like race to grab the job haha ! Why not just ignore the price tagged in OP and move when he is not clearly asking for advice on getting ripped off chances or quality coding skills.

Well, you guys know where I am if needed. As I've said before, I'd be willing to help out financially or any other way I can on this project. I hope to see it go live some day and include all of the features and perks that any good Arcade offers.

You would like to help contribute to the devaluation of your "profession"? Can't wait to see who said this.

I never said money equals quality, just that you tend to pay more for experience and quality. You might be able to get good quality code for cheap or crap code for an expensive price, but both those scenario's are unlikely.

Like going to an expensive restaurant or a fastfood restaurant, in both cases you will address your hunger, but there is a big difference in quality and you don't tax your health system with chemical produce.

Sorry but prefer small mexican restaurant near my house rather then paying double price for same food at famous Restaurant in town :) Sometimes those small fastfood restaurants are really great .

You're taking my post out of context :p It's not a 1:1 perfect metaphor.

Wait, what happened to the arcade Darkimmortal posted? Who requested it removed and why?

Since the code for XFA has not been posted anywhere yet but the XFA site, I asked that he please post his modified version in either the original release thread or via PM/PC to those asking him directly.

Someone posted it on here already though.

Kevin, are there ny plans for updating the Arcade any time soon? I would definitely be interested in contributing to a fully functional Arcade, and frankly, I really don't care who develops it, as long as it works, is well integrated with XF, and invites people to engage in it.

Oh, as for the other discussion in the thread, I'd rather pay a few bucks more and know I receive quality work. With that said, if someone thinks they can develop a quality coded Arcade for under 1k and they are happy with that payment, I really see no issue with it. I know I'd ask more, but then again, with Denmarks absurd taxes, I'd not be able to live off of 1k considering the amount of time I'd think is required.

I want to know your plan too, Kevin.
