Add-on Anyone else think it's a disservice to have all the XTR modifications deleted?

That is the dumbest thing ever. How about you create something, ask money for it and people decide to open source it or hand it for free ?
That's the point though. All you have to do is show up once every 45 days if you want to keep getting paid.

That would surely cause legal issues.
Not if it's part of the agreement when you post your software for sale.
  • maintain it
  • after 45 days of no checking in, it will transition to free/open source for that version.

seems pretty simple to me.

It's what most other 'things' do. you 'buy' the latest and greatest features, you community edition the old version. If you want to get paid again, update it to something worth buying and maintain it going forward.

just ideas.

When addons are deleted for whatever reason, why cant it simply be stated that its due to housekeeping - 45 day rule etc. Current housekeeping just deletes the addon with no reason provided.

Here's an idea. Create another category.

XenForo 2
  • XenForo tips & guides [2.x]
  • Add-ons [2.x]
  • Styles [2.x]
  • Template modifications [2.x]
  • Graphics [2.x]
  • Archive [2.x]

This way, you can use this category as an archive for the housekeeping rule. With a notice on top explaining the archive.

We do provide a reason:

ok, but is that criteria easy to find by anyone? I've never seen it. Just helps to be transparent with the rules, is all.
Before posting a resource you must agree to the terms and guidelines and standards

I don't think it's much to ask from third-parties to be engaged in the community you're promoting your products on (for free). Remember, only paid products get deleted (which they can be restored with a simple request to staff), free ones just get marked as unmaintained. I find it reasonable as both a resource author and someone who uses various resources from many authors on here.

My only real critique for the housekeeping is that I wish resource team members counted for being online, but I doubt that would have even helped in this specific scenario.

Have any developers complained about this 45-day rule? Or is it just some of us? Because they are the first concerned, aren't they?

Well, that'd certainly be one way to drive off the remaining vendors offering paid XF add-ons. 👀

Why is it always people who do not release resources or provide services that feel they can speak for developers and designers? This is straight back to 2011-2012 all over again.

If resource providers have an issue with the policies in place, they will say something about it. If they do so without an attitude, they will likely just generate a discussion that XF staff are willing to listen to. Not like this thread, where a stance has been made clear and people still continue to offer advice and opinions, and they aren't even affect by the policies other than as a customer and could easily just go to the resource providers site, which is likely what they want because they are not that active here .

Previously we have not disclosed the specifics because we didn't want resource authors doing the bare minimum just to keep their resources listed.

However, as the details have now been posted in this thread, I have updated the housekeeping thread.

This defies all logic. We keep the requirements hidden because we don't want the resource authors to know them.

The thread Brogan links has the full policy, and only lacked specifics, which have been changed over the years. Those same specifics have mostly been known, and it was likely oversight to clarify them. I've have never actively looked for the specifics but was aware of them (mostly).

Overall, I like the policy as posted above. Personally, I find it odd that there's only 15 days difference between "Unmaintained" and "removed". Seems a bit short, but that's me and I'm fine with Xenforo doing it as suits their needs. I'd probably do "Unmaintained" at 30 or 45 and remove at 60 or 90.

But, as I said, that's me. Not a dev and only use free add-ons right now so don't really have skin in the game.
