Any needs to install elastic search software first?

I don't understand that other than install the new add-on I need to install elastic search software too.
Can someone explain about this point?

Elasticsearch is a service that runs on your server, just like Apache or MySQL. It would generally require root access to install.

People managing their own dedicated server or VPS, should also be able to install elasticsearch IMHO.

Those running a big board that requires XFES and don't have the skills to install elasticsearch, surely have someone else managing their server for them?
