Another bailout country in EU

At first I couldn't understand their opposition to USA and the allies - but over the years the bigger picture has emerged slowly and made me see a little bit more from their side as well. It's just not as black and white as the US government or media wants it to be.

To drag it a little further; How would you feel if another superpower suddenly found out that USA was treating some groups in a way that they disagree with, and thus found out that they will invade the US to "fix" it according to their belief? How do you think the people in US would react? I know, this example is a bit far fetched - but it always helps to see things from different sides.
Actually, I do see the issues from other's perspectives as well. I just happen to believe that fighting needless violence with needless violence, just leads to more needless violence. It certainly doesn't help anything.

To be honest, I'm not quite happy with my country at this point in time either.

That sounds almost identical to our immigration problems over here, except ours isn't countries, it's individuals who enter into the US illegally.

Yeah, this is all legal. Not going to get into this topic too much because politics bores me and my opinion kind of runs deep with the whole EU. The other day we threw out an old couch and we got a knock at the door, two foreign people were pointing at the couches left in our front garden obviously wanting to take it away. I just said " you want to take it now by all means take it" They just looked at each other smiled back at me saying no english so there I am conducting hand gestures, gesturing away to take the couch away which they did. What amazes me is how they are allowed in our country not even being able to speak a word of english, obviously having no way to communicate to embrace our culture.

That's just one instance which also reminded me of the time when my dad was on his death bed crying out in pain and a foreign nurse who couldn't speak english not only giving him the wrong medicine but couldn't speak a word of english. It's just another instance why I wonder how these people can get into the country.

If I were to live in another country I would be expected to embrace their culture, their language yet Britain I feel gives people like this a free pass and an easy life whilst (stated above) people whom worked hard all their lives and fought for the country live and die in poverty. Absolute sham.

Anyway, That's me out of this thread. Nothing I say will be good or beneficial to this topic. :)

It's the same here Shelley. Exactly the same. We have people here who speak so many languages I can't even count them. But they're not required to learn english. WHy?? That is just beyond me. You can bet if I moved to Mexico or Cuba, etc I'd be requred to learn Spanish.

I can get very vehement when it comes to this subject, so I'd better shut up now...

Who's Next ?
The USA? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt

Well, not likely bankrupt ... but How bad are the finances ?

In 2001, the CBO forcasted a 850 Billion dollar surplus in 2009.
Obviously that didn't happen.
Looks like there is a 1.2 Trillion dollar defecit.
Here's why ...

The US government seems almost non-functional.
Can't get anything done.
The Republicans seems to out govern Democrats when the Democrats are in the majority !
How the genius Republicans get 50% of America voting to benefit the top 5% earners is a mystery ... but certainly ingenious.
I fear the average American isn't getting a fair slice of the pie anymore.
But is seems so unlikely to change with a non-functional system of governing.
Hopefully the media does a better job of covering the real problems in America ... to help everyone understand the important issues. Only then can people cast an informed vote for progress.

Time for the US to lead the world forward as the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave !

It is true that we are trillions of dollars in debt - no exaggeration.
It's also true that our media is not truthful with the American public.
It's also true that, as you said, the average American is not getting a "fair slice of the pie" any longer. That's been true for quite some time now.

Healthcare coverage is so outragous that the "average" American can't afford to cover their families, and businesses can't afford to cover their workers. In most companies here, you have to work full time in order get health benefits from your company. Full-time hours being between 38-40 hours per week. So what happens? They schedule you for 35-36 hours. That way they don't have to offer you health coverage. Because they can't afford to. Many workers opt out of health coverage anyway, because they can't afford to pay their share (usually 20 - 30% of the cost).

Then there are people like me, who can work only part time because I have a special needs son. SO I live off of a part time paycheck and child support. And guess what? I make just $50 over what is considered the poverty level. But still too much to be able to get state health coverage (medicaid). Thank GOD they have to cover my son, due to his "disabilities". SO I have no health coverage, no dental, no vision, no prescription coverage, no nothing. I've had pneumonia for almost 2 weeks. Can't go to the doc (you have to pay for office visits), can't get any medicine, etc.

And guess what? American veterans don't have it all that much better. Their benefits are being cut as well.

Can it get any worse? Sure it can. You can be a homeless person, with no job.

How would mandating English would help improve America and it's future ?
I think improving the system of governing could make America fit for the 21st century.
I'd start with abolishing the Electoral system and making the election take place of 3 months maximum.
18 months of campaigning ?
Crazy.
It's like it's 1800 and you have to go across the Midwest in a Conestoga Wagon.
Our national election in Canada is going on right now ... start to finish 5 weeks.
And even that seems long.
:)

Don't start me off, because I have one view - send them all back we're they came from. I agree about the EU, biggest mistake the UK every made. I wish the UK was like Australia, they threaten to blow them up if they come any closer to shore. You have to love them for that one!

Being able to understand what everyone is saying goes a loooong way! My pov is, if they come to my country, learn my language. If not, go back home!

Oh I've said alot more than I intended to. Let me get off here....

well, countries are going bancrupt because their stupid politicians had the idea of paying the losses of reckless banks speculating with peoples hard-earned money like in a casino.
It is not just Europe, the United States and UK are practically bancrupt countries as well.

Governments are printing money as long as they will find trees for producing this paper-money. Beware of holding money in "cash", as cash will be worthless sooner rather than later.

Listen to "Marc Faber" and "Jim Rogers" videos on youtube.

The entire world will be broke once the chinese flood the market with their trillions in U.S. dollars. A massive crash is coming so make sure you have plenty of gold buried in your backyard. Whenever I get a $10,000 bonus it goes for some gold plates. I suggest you guys keep only a small amount of cash on hand.

If only the rest of us were so lucky.

I don't mean it as a dig towards you or anything, but generally speaking that's highly unlikely for the rest of the middle-class and lower income people.

Actually, everyone should learn 'Native American' then....yeah? ;)
Actually that's not really needed.
It would have been appropriate a long time ago when Columbus came to North America.
After slaughtering most of the Natives, it doesn't seem right to learn their language.

Destroying native culture has never been so fun-ducational!

Scalper no Scalping !

Please be careful with words like 'everyone' Peggy. Not everyone hates the US, but some of us do believe certain US politicians have had a very bad effect on both their and other countries.

Oh come on. Give Obama a chance... :D Any time now...

Funny tho, that everyone passed over what I said about US healthcare. ;)

US Healthcare is screwed mostly due to the potential lawsuits following if a doctor happens to overlook something. Hence, doctors submit patients to every possible test, to cover their basis, and thus driving up the costs.

I'm willing to bet that getting rid of frivolous lawsuits, will help drop costs gigatically.

I think Germany is the only country getting screwed big time out of the EU deal :D :D ... the UK probably is not benefiting .. BUT y'all should ask a German :D

Or a Dutchie. The Dutch actually pay most per person to the EU, when comparing monies put in and monies gotten back divided by the total population. The EU was a nice idea, but political aspirations of rapidly growing it to form some kind of a forced unity managed to kill every potential it ever had.
