Not planned Alerts Sounds?

For when receiving a new message in the inbox, or an alert, I would like to hear a audio alert. Something like "You have a message" just once. Something that plays a swf or small wav sound file.

I have this on my SMF forum and my user's love it.

This would become irritating imo, no matter how subtle the audio alert would be I for one wouldn't have much use for an audio alert system when PCs sent to me already get sent to my mobile device alerting me via audio. IMO, and on the forum, a visual marker suffices.

If I'm not mistaken this has already been requested. :)

You would need to refresh the page to receive any new alerts so I'm not sure how a sound would help with anything.

When you refresh the page you will notice the alerts so adding a sound would just be a double notification.

You should be able to easily add this in yourself whenever there is a notification.

as for adding it to the core product, lets hope they don't. The only thing more annoying than websites playing sound to "alert" me of something is... well there isn't.

"I want" vs "I don't want" [just personal opinions but every forum is different]
if someone don't want this, but XF have it, easy, just disable it.
if someone want this, and XF have it, easy, use it.
Optional features don't hurt anybody.

NOOOOOOO thats annoying
Oh god no, please don't do this, haha.
NO sound anywere. We don't like to work at a joke- kiddybox.
Please not
This kind of messages in the suggestion threads are ridiculous.
If someday comes some feature that you don't like, I'm 100000% sure you will be able to disable it.
No one will force you to use something you do not want to use.
So?, what's the problem?

@rafass do you realise you are commenting in a thread that hasn't been posted in for 4 years?

Actually they can do. More features can lead to bloat and potentially performance issues. That's one reason why the developers don't add everything that is requested.

Also suggestion threads are for voicing opinions both for and against a suggestion. As well as guaging how popular a suggestion is, seeing how unpopular a suggestion is is also valid. As there is no unlike button, posting to express dislike is the only way to do this, as long as members are civil in their responses of course.
