Fixed Alerts do not show as unread in alerts pop-up

I assume it is the Alerts XF2.3.3 updates related to some of the performance/deadlock fixes, but when you open the alerts pop-up with unread alerts all the alerts show in the "as read" state giving no real hint on what alerts there are.

Alerts here on xenforo.com are still buggy: I'm not getting an alert bubble for new events. Previously the alert bubble was showing after page refresh. Now not at all. It seems to be a new issue, because when I open the alerts dropdown, then the new events do not display as new. i.e. they do not have a blue background colour and bold font.

I'm using Firefox browser on windows.

Presumably with three people reporting this there's something to it, but we haven't been able to reproduce this locally or here so far. The alert bubble appears, and opening the pop-up retains the unread state. Auto-read alerts are marked as read on subsequent pages, but all other alerts retain their unread state as expected.

I noticed this a little earlier: I had 7 alerts, 6 for one discussion and 1 for another. By opening the pop-up, the 6 for the same discussion found themselves read (without me going to the discussion in question of course).

Weirdly enough, now I see the alert bubble again for the first time in around a week or so. If you changed anything: it worked. :)
If not, the matrix is alive lol.

It still isn't working properly. The alerts pop-up said I had 3 alerts; but on opening it immediately marked a few as read wiping the notifications indicators. It doesn't list when you've recently read the alert which makes tracking and debugging this issue without database access very painful.

Note the 2nd alert isn't actually the unread background color, that is the on-hover color. Which isn't great UX either :(

Noticed this here last few days too, thought I was going mad. Last batch of alerts haven't shown any as unread when opening the dropdown.

Reply alerts for example get instantly marked as read without any indicator they where just marked as read, while mentions work properly.

I think it is the interaction of the auto-read and the "just read" flag it uses when rendering the alert after it has just been read.

I can confirm that after receiving an email notification of a thread reply on this forum there was no alert on the menu bar icon or background highlight on the drop down menu.

Windows 11 Pro/Firefox.

We've rolled out some changes here that should address this. Let us know if you continue to see alerts already marked as read when opening the alerts pop-up for the first time since they were received.

For the avoidance of doubt, some alerts (eg. reactions) are automatically marked as read after they have been viewed, and viewing content pages will automatically mark alerts from that content as viewed and read.
