XF 2.2 Alerts Being Marked Read

I noticed that alerts on both of my XF 2.2.2 forums are being marked read as soon as I click the bell icon. If I manually mark them as unread they stay unread until I view them or mark them read. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Are you pointing to new thread alerts? I don't encounter this issue. However, it's a pity the bell icon is going "off"once the first new thread is read. Would be a lot nicer if the lights only went out if all new thread alerts were read.

I'm talking about alerts for mentions, quoted posts, reactions, etc.
