I think this outfit have taken the money and run. Are xenforo aware of this? I purchased a license with them and the addon doesn't work. No support and no replies to my messages.

Very concerning as the addon was not cheap.

Any advice, much appreciated.

Addonflare has gone years ago. Paid Registrations addon has replacements by @Painbaker

Other addons like awards system and moods do not have full substitutes as far as I know.

Ok thanks for the information.

Bit of a joke they are still selling and taking people's money. Surprised @XenForo aren't a bit more active in these cases. After all their name is all over it.

I paid by Paypal and the time to claim ran out whilst I was waiting for replies from Addon Flare.

So i've lost $125.

Try calling Paypal directly, and bring up that this seller has been unavailable for years, and that they should have possible documentation of other claims made in the past. Sometimes you can get the money back, but it depends on the support rep you get.

XF has removed their add-ons from this site, but it is not like they can take down their site.

Update. I got no where with Paypal. Reminder to self to use Credit Card direct and not Paypal account.

I'd quite like NOT to happen to anyone else. I do feel like Xenforo have some responsibility here. So someone to develop an addon, I assume there is some verification process if only a process to go through to get some code access? I don't know, maybe not and it's wild west. But I would guess Xenforo have had some sort of relationship with https://www.addonflare.com/ over the many years? At least some contact details.

Worth me contacting Xenforo or waste of time?

No.

Verification by buying a license, which anyone can do.

While I'm not Xenforo, I doubt they can really provide any meaningful assistance.

Just like your customer relationship as a license holder.

The proper course of action is to file a complaint with the hosting service that operates their site and/or hire a lawyer and begin legal proceedings to reach your end goal. However, the cost outlay will (most likely) negate any benefit you get out of this in the long run.

Why is that left to me to do and not Xenforo?

Because Xenforo does not police 3rd party sites. That's not their job and at most they could possibly revoke their license, but does that stop them from operating completely? Nope.

When you entered to a purchase agreement with a site that provides non-official 3rd party addons, that agreement is with you and that developer/site. It does not scope in the Xenforo company or their associated developers.

You would think that a company such as Xenforo would take issue with their name and logo being displayed and marketed fraudulently. To the point where they would be the ones taking the time and cost to fix it as you described.

Where do you see that the site in question brands themselves as Xenforo? And the logo usage? At least I don't see any fraudulent representation that would hold up in a trademark or copyright court situation. The only thing I see is the standard copyright message at the bottom of the page. Even them saying "XenForo 2 Addons" isn't something that could be chalked up to fraudulent usage.

Yep thanks, I usually do. I assumed this outfit were well know. They've been around in the community for years I think.

I think my argument is fair that Xenforo should do more when they are notified. Tut.

So if CompanyZ starts making generic car parts that fit my GMC pickup, they sell those parts online, then I buy a part from them and never get my part or my money back...you think GMC has a responsibilty to go after CompanyZ to help me get my money back?

XF only has control over xenforo.com and their software licenses.
I think the only thing they can potentially do is to remove AddonFlare's addons from here, as they clearly do not work for XF2.3
However, they do work for XF2.2 and below which is clearly stated on the resource listings. its also clearly stated that the addons are Unmaintained. The problem is that not all customers read this and still buy these addons buy clicking on the Purchase button.

Did you report the addon or open up a support ticket?
