Add a Media Site button outside of the editor?

I have a text field in my mod. I want to add a button next to the text field that brings up the media dialog window (the one from the editor). Then the user submits a URL, and if it matches a media site, it places the corresponding bb-code into the text field.

Is something like this possible using the built in XenForo functions?

This is likely something you would need to custom develop. The media site dialog code is tied to the RTE. You can call into the editor/media route once you have a URL though.
