XenCustomize Forum Watch Digests for XenForo 2.3
Give members more control over watched forum emails with Immediate, Daily digest, and Weekly digest delivery options built directly into XenForo's native forum watch system.[SCREENSHOT_CAPTION]Community requested: This add-on was inspired by community requests for a simple way to receive daily or weekly email digests from individually selected watched forums instead of receiving an email for every update.[/SCREENSHOT_CAPTION]
XenCustomize Forum Watch Digests extends XenForo's existing forum watch system with flexible email delivery frequencies.
Instead of receiving an immediate email whenever activity occurs in a watched forum, members can choose to receive those updates together in a Daily digest or Weekly digest.
The feature is integrated directly into XenForo's normal Watch forum workflow, so members continue choosing which forums they want to follow and whether they want alerts or emails. There is no separate subscription or newsletter system to manage.
Key Features
Members can choose how watched forum emails are delivered:
- Default
- Daily digest
- Weekly digest
Collect qualifying activity from Daily watched forums and deliver it together in a single daily email instead of sending separate emails throughout the day.
Members who prefer fewer emails can choose Weekly digest and receive qualifying watched forum activity together once per week.
Email frequency does not delay XenForo alerts. Members can continue receiving immediate alerts while having their watched-forum emails collected into a Daily or Weekly digest.
Each watched forum can use its own email frequency. A member can receive immediate emails from one forum, a Daily digest for another, and a Weekly digest for another.
When a member watches multiple forums using the same digest frequency, qualifying activity is combined into one organized email with separate sections for each forum.
Digest watches continue using XenForo's existing New threads or New messages watch preference.
If there is no qualifying activity during a digest period, no unnecessary digest email is sent.
Native Watch Forum Integration
Forum Watch Digests extends XenForo's existing Watch forum overlay rather than introducing another subscription system. When email notifications are enabled, members can choose:
Default
Daily digest
Weekly digest
Default keeps XenForo's normal watched-forum email behavior.
Choosing Daily digest or Weekly digest delays the email portion of the watch while leaving enabled XenForo alerts immediate.
Existing XenForo forum watch settings remain responsible for which forums are watched, whether alerts and emails are enabled, and whether notifications apply to new threads or new messages.
Easy Frequency Management
Members can see their current email frequency directly on XenForo's existing Watched forums page. The current frequency appears beside the normal notification information:
New messages · Alerts · Emails · Daily digest
Clicking the frequency opens a simple overlay where the member can switch between:
- Default
- Daily digest
- Weekly digest
Organized Digest Emails
Daily and Weekly emails organize activity by watched forum, making it easy for members to see what has happened in the areas they chose to follow.Digest emails can include:
- Watched forum sections
- New threads
- Threads with new messages
- Number of qualifying new posts
- Direct links to threads
- Direct links to watched forums
Permission-Aware Delivery
Digest content is prepared for the individual recipient and respects their current XenForo access.Content the member can no longer view is not included in their digest.
The digest also avoids including the member's own activity and content from ignored members.
XenForo's watched-forum active-user email behavior is respected as well.
Digest Scheduling
Administrators control when Daily and Weekly digests are delivered.Available options include:
- Daily digest delivery hour
- Weekly digest delivery day
- Weekly digest delivery hour
Digest processing is designed to handle delayed cron execution without repeatedly sending the same activity.
XenForo-Native Integration
Forum Watch Digests is built around XenForo's existing forum watch system rather than replacing it.Native XenForo forum watches remain responsible for:
- Which forums a member watches
- New threads or new messages notification preference
- Email notification status
- Alert notification status
- Forum and content permissions
This also means existing forum watches continue working normally after installation. Unless a member specifically chooses Daily or Weekly, watched-forum emails continue using XenForo's normal immediate delivery behavior.
Useful For
Forum Watch Digests is especially useful for communities where members follow specific areas but do not want an email for every individual update.Examples include:
- Large communities with many active forums
- Product and brand-specific forums
- Support and technical communities
- Hobby and interest-based sections
- Members who want to follow several forums with fewer emails
