🗂️ XenCustomize Custom Field Groups for XenForo 2.3

Organize XenForo custom thread fields and custom user fields into clean, manageable groups with group titles, display ordering, and quick field assignment.

Community requested: This add-on was originally requested by @RotaryBoss, who proposed bringing organization to custom thread fields, including visible group titles on the frontend. We liked the idea enough to turn it into a complete add-on and expand the concept to support custom user fields as well.

XenCustomize Custom Field Groups adds a simple organizational layer to XenForo's existing custom field system.

As communities grow, custom fields can quickly become one long list of unrelated information. Custom Field Groups lets you organize related fields into logical groups with their own titles and display order, making them easier to manage in the Admin CP and easier for members to understand.

For example:

Product Information
Product
Version
License type

Environment
XenForo version
PHP version
Server type

The add-on works with XenForo's native custom fields rather than replacing them. Existing fields, values, validation, permissions, display locations, and other native field behavior remain managed by XenForo.

This release supports both Custom Thread Fields and Custom User Fields.

✨ Key Features

🗂️ Create custom field groups
Create logical groups with their own titles and display order to keep related fields together.

🛠️ Grouped Admin CP field management
Custom thread fields and custom user fields are organized by group in their existing Admin CP field lists. Fields without a group remain under Ungrouped.

✏️ Assign groups while editing fields
Choose a field group directly when creating or editing a custom thread or user field.

⚡ Quick Set field assignment
Select multiple fields and assign them to a group together, making it easy to organize sites that already have many custom fields.

↕️ Independent group ordering
Control the display order of groups while keeping the normal XenForo display order of individual fields.

🧵 Custom Thread Field Groups

Custom thread fields can be grouped throughout their supported create, edit, and display locations.

Group titles appear above related fields while XenForo continues handling the fields themselves.

Supported thread field areas include:
  • Create thread form
  • Edit thread form
  • Before message
  • After message
  • Thread status block
Native display locations are preserved. A group can contain fields from different XenForo display locations without moving those fields from their configured locations.

Empty groups are automatically hidden on public thread displays when none of their fields have a value.

👤 Custom User Field Groups

Custom user fields use the same group management system in the Admin CP.

Grouping is also available where members enter or edit these fields:
  • Registration form
  • Account details — Personal fields
  • Account details — Contact fields
Other native user-field displays, such as member profiles and message user information, remain unchanged.

🧩 XenForo-Native Integration

Custom Field Groups adds organization around XenForo's existing custom fields rather than creating a separate field system.

This means you can continue using your existing:
  • Custom field types and values
  • Field validation and required settings
  • Permissions and applicability settings
  • Native display locations
  • Field display ordering and formatting
Existing custom fields remain intact after installation and start as ungrouped, so you can organize them at your own pace.

Deleting a custom field group does not delete its XenForo fields or their stored values. The affected fields simply become ungrouped.

🎯 Useful For

Custom Field Groups is especially useful for communities that use several custom fields for:
  • Support and troubleshooting information
  • Product or software details
  • Structured thread information
  • Member and registration information
  • Sites with large existing custom field collections

✅ Compatibility & Requirements

🔑 License Setup

After installation, go to the add-on options and open the License options tab to enter your license key. If you have a branding-free license key, you may enter it there as well to remove branding.

License verification may use XenCustomize.com with local caching. Normal installation and uninstallation do not depend on our server being available. An expired license does not disable normal use of the add-on, but an active valid license is required for official support and access to new downloads or updates released after the license expires.
