Do members have to click a translate button on every post?​

No. Universal Translator is designed around automatic post translation.

Once a member has selected their preferred reading language, all posts will be translated for them automatically right inside the thread. Members do not need to copy posts into another website, install a browser extension, or manually translate each post one by one.

Does Universal Translator translate the XenForo interface?​

No. Universal Translator focuses on forum post content. It does not translate menus, buttons, forum names, account pages, admin pages, Resource Manager pages, private conversations, or other site/interface text.

Does it change the original post?​

No. Original post content remains unchanged. Universal Translator provides a translated reading experience while keeping the original post intact.

Can members still view the original post?​

Yes. Members can use the Original / Translated view to compare the translated version with the original post.

Does each member choose their own reading language?​

Yes. Each member can choose their preferred reading language in their account preferences. Once that preference is set, Universal Translator can automatically translate eligible posts into that language.

Is DeepL included with the license?​

No. A separate DeepL API account and API key are required. DeepL usage is billed separately by DeepL and is not included with the Universal Translator license.

Which translation provider does it use?​

Version 1.0.x uses DeepL. Additional providers will be added in future versions, but DeepL is the provider used in the current 1.0.x release line.

Does it preserve quotes and formatting?​

Universal Translator is designed to preserve quote boxes, paragraph breaks, inline attachments/images, and safe inline formatting where possible. Machine translation and complex post formatting can vary, but the goal is to keep translated thread content readable and properly structured.

Does it work for read-only users?​

Yes. As of version 1.0.1, Universal Translator loads for users who can view threads and use translations even if they do not have permission to reply. This is useful for read-only groups, demo areas, restricted communities, locked threads, and support-view areas.

Can staff correct the detected source language?​

Yes. Trusted staff can be given permission to correct a post’s source language when needed. Normal users should not be given this permission.

Does Universal Translator use caching?​

Yes. Universal Translator uses a translation cache to reduce repeated provider usage when the same content is translated again.

Does it add visible branding?​

No. Universal Translator does not add public-facing XenChef branding to your forum.

Can I try it before buying?​

Yes. A demo site is available so you can see how Universal Translator behaves inside real XenForo threads before purchasing.
