Let's talk about 2.4 baby

There's been close to 100 updates to TipTap V3 since it came out last summer 🫠
And they're all in XF 2.4. It's a fantastic product. We've got a lot more to show you. I'm in a good mood so I'll post some sneak peeks below. DO NOT OPEN if you don't want any clues or to be spoiled before the next HYS. (I promise there isn't a rick roll).

The work to get the current build up to Tiptap v3 wasn't difficult. But a lot of time has been spent adding an incredible amount of polish. We're excited to show you more, including DX updates so add-on developers can extend this as fully as their minds (and agents) can muster.

Now we're talking! Thanks for the update @Chris D :)

Looks like we're getting close! Just in time for my busiest time of the year, too, so I won't be able to update my site even if it does come out soon. 🤣 Thanks for the update, Chris!

Also, I couldn't be more happy to see the toolbar being moved to below the content box on the editor.

Does community beta mean a rollout here before a public beta? 🤔

I seem to recall a post somewhere that this site is always a version ahead (2.3.12 → 2.3.13), but unsure if I understood that about 3rd point releases, or even a 2nd point for that matter.

Also, would Cloud get 2.4 before the public beta? Seems like there are enough customers to push out a version to do beta testing with them that'd return errors much quicker for patching than relying on the community here to push out RCs then betas.

I suppose as soon as the editor changes here would mean we're very close, if I interpreted that right.

Still hoping the TipTap whiteboard is built in (with an option to enable/disable or follow image permissions).

Yes, same as every release we've ever done basically.

Nope, they'll get it when 2.4.0 stable is released.

Once 2.4 is installed here we're close to a public beta, yes. Same as every release.

There is no such feature. If you mean this then that's not a feature, it's a developer tutorial/example, essentially.

Hopefully, someone can tackle that if it's easy to work with. Unsure how the editor would want to save it (I.e., an image or text to be converted into an "image" on load) as I haven't looked into TipTap than surface level after the announcement.

Thanks for the clarification, on it, and other points, though.

For the most part it would be nothing but unnecessary bloat. Yes, possible, useful? I'm really not convinced. I feel like the optimal experience would be to produce your content in an actual whiteboard app that's already very good and dedicated to that purpose (e.g. Excalidraw), export and then upload as an image.

Something like this:

Fantastic news Chris - looks excellent! Thanks for taking the time to share a snippet of what's to come. I'm sure you guys have put a lot of thought into it - we eagerly await further news as more progress is made :-D

Even taking the niche use cases (math, etc.), which can substitute LaTeX, and my own, you're probably right. There'd always be that "one more" modification, perhaps to the pencil size, etc., that'd needs to be ever-added to finally feel complete.

Until pretty close to this.
Excalidraw

I just imagined a bare-bones Galaxy Notes type whiteboard for quick insert illustrations.

But after the introduction of Excalidraw, I might be dumping Notes for it, because it's too basic in comparison. One thing I hope that I don't have to drop is the S-pen (holding onto the Galaxy S23 Ultra for that). 😅

Still looking forward to TipTap, but that's not the highest on my list.

Looks like someone already tried to integrate it! 👀
Although has a react dependency.

P'haps a project for someone to try and integrate as a 3rd party plugin.

I'm so boring... I'm going to strip it down nothing probably. 😂

Not specific to the new editor, but do I really want users playing with font family, size, bold, italic, colors, underlines, etc? No. Give me the stuff that doesn't affect how text is presented though. :)

Imagine if Facebook or anything else that has a lot of user generated content let their users do this. Can we just bring back <blink> too?
