Your workstation desk

Looking for a desk so my son and I can share together. Probably a L sharp desk. Will have a LCD monitor, my MBP, another laptop and maybe some books and desk lamps.
Also, looking for chairs with ergonomic support as well.

Any suggestion for desk and chairs? What are you using?

I'm looking to pick them up at IKEA and Staples stores.

Hi Andy
Believe it or not, find a place that sells used office furniture. I found some vintage wonderful desks for peanuts and the quality, compared to today's quality, is outstanding.

I have this setup:

Honestly, at those prices... I couldn't find anything near as good. I've had it about 6 months now and still love the setup. Quality is good actually, much better than you'd expect for those prices. I've had various desk setups over the last 20 years and so far, this is by far the best setup I've had.

You have all those items?
I read the reviews and some said the surface scratches easily and the edge chips. What is your experience?

Yeah, I have all 4 pieces. I haven't had any problems with scratches or chips myself. I guess it depends on what you're doing though. I don't have anything that really slides around on it so that hasn't been an issue. I've got a crapton of stuff on it as well, so... I think it's more how someone uses it/takes care of it than anything else.

L shaped desks seem very "one person" to me.
I guess most desks are for one person (at a time).

I don't see room for 2 chairs ... for my tastes anyway.

If the size of the room permits, you might try two desks.

Don't you think you will distract each other ?
:)

They are very 1 person. But, that's why I also linked the second part. My girlfriend uses that when she's here, and it matches my desk, so... was a good choice for us anyway.

I use a untreated natural wood as my tabletop, and four legs (can't remember which legs I bought). I couldn't find any desks I liked, so I just drove down to ikea in Cincinnati and picked out some items. I also had a custom-made glass top (made locally) to help protect the wood because I decided to leave it unfinished.

I don't know if that helps you with any ideas.
I'm in NYC so with city living, it's not convenient to custom make a table unless you have tools and workshop in your garage so I'm just thinking of picking up a set from ikea or any other furniture stores.

I have a huge desk at the house... Never sit at it...
It's usually a laptop on the couch or my touchpad...
Only time I sit at my desk is when I do the taxes :-)
Just a thought...

Same here. My son starts school next month so I want to put him into a good habit of doing his HW at his desk. I don't have a PC, only laptop so i work wherever I sit.

Hi Andy,
Yes I know I had the same problem. I love old vintage tank desks as the quality is remarkable and I like stuff like this. I bought it for $75.00 with free delivery. It says something when a desk that is 50+ years old and still looks and functions like new. No particle board.... :) Too bad we don't live near each other, I just have away all put one of my vintage desks from my office.

I'm thinking of something simple like this
