It's what's lacking at the moment.

Even when the next version is about to drop tell us what to expect in it so that all of us who use your software know what to expect in it.

I know that. But the simple thing is to upgrade when the next version is on

XenForo 2.3 will be shipping with a minimum requirement of PHP 7.2.5. We currently recommend upgrading to PHP 8.0 where possible.

This was in 2021. PHP 7.x is EoL and 8.0 is not actively supported anymore, just security support for 7 months. Wonder what will be the minimum with the release.
