Xenforo User Map [Deleted]

1.) Let the users decide, if they want to have their location published on map. Just deleting location in user profile is not possible, since we push that information from all users. But they should be allowed to decide (checkbox?), if they are visible on map. Just like being invisible in "who's online?"

---2.) Set which usergroups are displayed on map. Not, who can see it, but which usergroups are shown.---

3.) option for 2.) Make it switchable, which usergroups are currently shown, so users can decide at map display to switch between "Stuff", "Members", "Special Usergroup a"...

4a.) Show link to map location (if user allowed in 1.) of user in his profile, just to find him immediatly in map

4b.) Show small map with location of user in his profile (alternative of 3a) (like in vB vossis membermap)

5.) make it an option for admins, if others users jump to user profile when clicking on a name (like today) in usermap or if only the small profile layer of user is shown on the map. It's very annoying to search for users and always have to leave the map.

This is really great and thank you for implementing my suggestion (cluster map).

1) Where does the user need to set the location? Is it default XenForo location or Does this add-on ask for location information as country/state zip information may be required.
2) Or does it work on IP?

I believe it uses the location set from the user profile and not IP. IP based would be "nice" but not necessarily correct as for a "home" base of the user - since they may be using a VPN to access the site(s).

Be aware if you want to use both, they use the same route (or did), so you have to modify the route in the XML install file to use a different one in one or the other (and do it on every upgrade).

Any plans to give the option to geo locate last post IP? Would be a nice addition as user specified location fields are generally crap across most forums.

I think what would be MORE beneficial than IP based (which as I said earlier is not necessarily accurate due to many factors) would be one in which you could use a custom field to draw the location data from. That way you could run a promotion for those that input their data (no real way to verify though) and then make the map only available to those that input their custom location field. I can see some uses for it on sites like vehicle/motorcycle/bicycle where locations could be useful for contacting fellow members for get-togethers, rides, etc.

I don't think there's a right or wrong here. I can tell you from experience that over 75% of locations (which are mandatory on my forums) are garbage and will not resolve using GAPI. I cannot and do not want to force users to update their locations. An IP location will at least get me a city 95% of the time. I'd definitely be in favour of both of course.

Also it should be an opt-in model vs. opt-out meaning users should click on a checkbox to allow location pinning. This would avoid a lot of complaints.

@localhost8080 and users of the map.

I want this add-on for my forum Dreamreef.nl but i have a few questions that i could not find after reading the whole topic.

1. Can you put in your own icons on the map? I want a fish for example.
2. Is it possible to choose a icon per user? I want to give the "normal" users a default icon but the shops/advertisers their own icon of their shop. So not a usergroup but the user themself.
3. Are the https issues resolved?
4. How does the map looks on a mobile style? is it scaled to the phone/tab? The pics i've seen where good i think.

Thanks in advance.

Since there is a path parameter to the icon, I'm sure you can use any that are sized correctly... as shown earlier, there is one using the BMW emblem - which is not a standard one from the linked site in the ACP for the add-on.
2. Is it possible to choose a icon per user? I want to give the "normal" users a default icon but the shops/advertisers their own icon of their shop. So not a usergroup but the user themself.
Pretty sure that would require extending the add-on.
3. Are the https issues resolved?
Doubtful, since the issue is at the Google end - the JS file that is being called from their is what is coded to use HTTP. The resolution is very easy as I detailed in an earlier post.

I'll upload a screenshot from my iPhone 6 in just a minute and attach to this post. I'll need to scale them down first though as they will be large.

Thank you very much for your reply. So all but nr. 2 are ok :)
I'm sure that @localhost8080 could say something about that one:)

I've read your post about the https so i know there is a "solution". But i thought maybe it was solved by Google already. But i'll do that "trick" you discribed.

The map looks goed on the phone. Thanks for the screenshots.
