xenforo plugin system

can we have more information on the plugin system of xenforo and its architecture?
To me its one of the most important features :D

my ideal concept would be to create a common framework shared between different applications, build a forum script on it and then build the other apps and 3rd party plugins.
i know one script that does it exactly as i wish and its wbb, check this page to have a better idea, they explain it better than me:
framework: http://www.woltlab.com/wcf/
forum script: http://www.woltlab.com/wbb/
a blog app: http://www.woltlab.com/wcb/

i have reasons to belive xf is going to have similar architecture, first clue is the breadcrumb, when you go to members, there is no forum link (which means they are separate apps members is an independent app from forum)
second clue is Mike's answer here:

The WCF have a "package"-System, and this package-System is not perfect and have some small deficiencies. It is nice, i worked two years with it, but perfect is this system really not. And the "wcb" dir, is a linkrewrite from the cms, only WCF and WBB are dirs in the structure.

The WCF package system is still the best plugin system at the moment, though it has several weaknesses and more anoying: some really weird bugs. I love that it is similar to unix-like package system, i.e. deb/dpkg. It would be great to see a real package system for XenForo, not only an improved hook system.
