XenForo needs a blog with regular updates from Kier & Mike

Why would it feel like XenForo is "standing still"??? Kier has posted more than once, that they are now working on XenForo 1.1. How is that standing still? I've known Kier for a long time, and it isn't in him to "stand still" lol.

Because I don't browse the forums for every single post the developers does, I don't have time to lurk around the forums for that. I'm looking at the official announcement forum which is the current "updates" from XenForo. This announcement forum is however not suited for simple updates and a blog(or even a twitter) would be way better for that purpose.

I'm glad to hear though that 1.1 is being developed. I just wish they would post some updates on how it's going(in a "official" spot and not all around the forums). And that was what I had visioned with the updates-blog.

I have realized though that this community seems to be wanting way more than is humanly possible from 2 developers. Have they said anything about hiring more developers?

I understand now why you were so reluctant to this thread from the beginning. Gash, this community is really tense! I think people are taking this way too seriously, starting talking about lawsuits and stuff which really has nothing to do with a simple update-blog. What I wanted was simply a blog where they simply post regular updates about the development and everything. A development-blog. Not a roadmap - which seems to be what everyone else wants.
When they're already tapped for time, how will they have time for updating a blog consistently, in a way people would be satisfied with?

Lawsuits take a large part of their time, which is why it was brought up as a valid reason.

Small start-up business, in two lawsuits = unlikely to be able to hire till things simmer down.

The company is only a year old, and v1 has only been out for a month. This is just people being impatient and trying to push their priorities, without thought of why the steps haven't been taken.

I'm not googlebot and I don't have time to go from post to post in order to read information about this software. They are the ones who should be interested into provide blog posts with useful information, not me.

Not really .. you are the one asking. Even created a thread. Might as well just use the search, it is two clicks away :)
They might already be comfortable with the level of communication here. If you are not comfortable and need more, by all means make an effort and use the search at least.

They do make announcements with relevant info each release. That should be enough. Give people some air to work ...

I do it the stalker way, I clicked on "Follow" for Kier & Mike and now I watch them in my news feed. I can even see what posts Kier like...

@Brogan

Well, ok here is a suggestion. Damn the features. About a blog about XenForo on a weekly basis just to let us everything is ok, and xF is moving forward? You could create a Board in "General Discussions", and the team members could just talk about the developers, the progress and even the community. A weekly update would be nice.

Does the lawsuit still look positive for xF? How are xF add-ons coming along, which ones do you recommend? How about "add-on of the week" in the blog where you talk a little about it? Same goes for themes....

I think you get the general idea. Let us know the team is healthy, blah blah blah. If you think this is a bad idea to do this, that's ok too. It's just a suggestion, and future features don't have to be mentioned by the team at all.

I don't to anger anyone, I'm trying to do the opposite so... (sorry if this has been suggested already)

To sum it up, the developers have given hints as to what they are working on, the moderator Brogan has most/all of those hints in his information section, but unless you know it is there, your unlikely to find it. (particularly less active members / potential customers)

So my suggestion is: can Brogan create a thread in announcements with these latest updates? Perhaps separate each by a post, just like the developers do when they announce new features of an update. That way people can like individual upcoming features?

and that, my friend, is ridiculous. I'm sure that when they have something of importance to add, they certainly will. :)

The ridiculous is that fans are protecting XF to death, can't see that their protection is ridiculous.

About as ridiculous as a minor feature for convenience being a requirement to convert? I think not.

I'll start demanding SMS updates, just so I can be equally as ridiculous.

This thread is comical in a sad way.
And like most threads it's over after the 2nd page.

I've waited long enough to move onto a better forum package, I can wait longer.
If anyone's business depends on the future or road map of software, I feel they are in the wrong business.
It is just too unpredictable.

Very well said.

Ask yourselves this question - "Do you have enough hours in the day to do EVERYTHING (and I mean absolutely everything) you would like to do on your own forums/communities/sites?"

No? Me either. I have to constantly make choices about where I dedicate my free time. I have a to-do list as long as a telephone directory and there are never enough hours in the day to get to everything I'd like to; so I have to do what's important and sort the rest out later as time allows.

I'm sure the development team of XF will expand, and I'm sure the current team would welcome some support/sales staff, and be able to give updates more often, but for now it's two blokes in a shed doing the best they can; remember how hard it was when you started out?

I'm not a rose-tinted-glasses XF fanboi, but do love what XF is about; I love the pioneering spirit that has got it all going; I'm loving the simplicity of the software and how it has put a fresh perspective on forums/communities; so for now I'm just going to be content to be a part of it and wonder at the new stuff as and when it is announced.

Ironically, the push for more info is a symptom of blowing most people's expectations out of the water - XF is sooooo good, people just want more and more - and wondering where it's heading is just a part of that.

Give them a chance to get going eh. Give it some time to develop. Let the XF team grow a bit and I'm sure there will come a point at which all the roadmap/coming soon/new features stuff will make regular appearances.

Patience. That's all that is required. A bit of patience.

Cheers,
Shaun :D
