Xenforo looks a lot better in Firefox versus IE 8

Hmm No
Unless your site is a knitting site or something than I will agree with you o_O
IE is 2nd on one of my sites and no where on the other 7

On the forum in my signature, mostly webmasters read it

Did I read this wrong?
no
It's only a Tech Community Preview, it doesn't even have any browser chrome, it's just literally a rendering engine so that web developers can see how it works and plan ahead. IE10 itself won't release for another 18 or so months, and I wouldn't think that we will even see beta's for another 10 or so months, let alone any RCs.
That makes me feel better :).

OK, you find the figures on most popular browser and the market share of them, I just posted market share on OS in my prior post.

I have to go now !!

I never said anything about OS O_o ... Think you have the wrong person :D
also check my link to w3schools ^_^

If we were to make large sweeping generalisations we could say that:

  • Firefox = Wannabe techie / fad follower
  • Chrome = Real techie.
  • Opera = Wants to be different.
  • Internet Explorer = Uses the default.
But of course that isn't true, the furthest I would think it is safe to generalise with is locale as some browsers are well known to be much stronger in certain regions. For example IE6 in China, Firefox in Europe etc.

Opera tries to be innovative, not different.

Most of the people I know who use it use it because they're a bit more efficient with it. Things that take me more work on other browsers I can do much quicker with Opera, and I'm familiar with Chrome and Firefox about the same as I am with Opera.

If you took the features from Opera and combined it with Chrome, you'd have a great browser. One of my favorite new features in Opera is the auto fill-in in the address bar. For instance, to go to XenForo - hit x+enter done... Go to my forum u+enter done. The recycle bin is also nice.

I'm seeing around 45% IE on my forums. Good thing that only 3% of them are using IE6!

Utter rubbish, I use FireFox because it's a great browser. Better than the rest and for no other reason.

If you check my post I did say "But of course that isn't true" and before that I said "If we were to make large sweeping generalisations". The point was to illustrate that you cannot ever generalise a certain type of browser to a certain type of person. Everyone has their own reasons for using the browser which they do and to make assumptions about them based on that is unfair and backwards. A browser is a browser, people will choose what is best for them :).

And on the Opera thing, I'm also a fan of it, I don't use it as much as I used to but it is a very good browser, and Opera Mini is brilliant when I don't have access to a phone with 3G / using a phone without a proper browser.

LOL, I just had a 16 part auto update of Windows XP Home SP 3 yesterday, I guess they don't automatically update IE then !!

You guys might hate M$, but IE still is the browser most folks hit your sites with !!

Right ??
Wrong.

On most tech and IT related sites, Firefox wins. On some of them, IE comes out 3rd behind Firefox and Chrome (yes, true, even Chrome is already more popular among IT professionals). The majority of IE users come from corporate and enterprise networks where users cannot install their browser of choice and must live with what the management dictates.

Also, things are a bit different in Europe, see here:

http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Firefox-overtakes-Internet-Explorer-in-Europe-1163818.html

Firefox did lose some of its user base in the last year, but these users didn't switch to IE for sure. There are other alternatives, all of them much better than IE.

OK, so you geeks hate Microsoft OS !!

In a lot of cases I do too, but I'm not smart enough to use Linux (not smart enough to understand command lines) and really have never had the money to buy a state of the art MAC.

You say "most tech sites", but how do you get around these facts:

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=0
I think it is because schools, businesses, etc. use the default browser which is usually IE and because not everyone is a techie...they usually just get on their knees and cry until we make everything go away :).(ok last part was a rant)
