Xenforo format capabilities.

I am helping someone setup a xenforo install (I don't have his account or license) and the client messed up and corrupted his files but not the mysql database.

Will it work if I just do a fresh install of xenforo and import the mysql database or how should I go about this?

The license holder will need to post in the relevant customer support forum, or they can associate you with their account so you can do so on their behalf.
