why is there no hosting board??

anyway, i am preparing to deploy a linode node specifically for xf, and was curious if anyone had any recommendations as to os? linode default is ubu lucid, yet my personal preference is centos (merely because of familiarity). which way you reckon i should go? or is it much of a muchness?

anyone hosting xf on linode?

yeah i was thinking it really didnt matter.
far more concerning is the http daemon i suppose. ive gone with apache somply cos its a safe bet, but out of interest are you running nginx/light or some other apache alternative? id like to run something a bit less intensive than apache, but im not sure if im going to end up needing some apache-specific module or whatnot

running light or nginx is a very seductive idea. ive always gone with apache due to the fact that its familiar and holds no surprises. if it is known that xf will run well on something outside of apache this is probably a great time to give something else a go.
thanks guys :)

xF runs fine on nginx. This is deployed on Linode as well :

I have been testing Cherokee too, great little server. I suggest going with cherokee if you do not know your way around nginx. GUI everything :)
I will post the rewrite rules for Cherokee this afternoon (I just have to take screen shots, because it's done via gui)

As far as the OS, go with what you feel comfortable with, but keep in mind Ubuntu's community is far more active and the Ubuntu repository is always up to date ;)
If you are picking a small slice (2GB or less) install a 32 bit Distro, less headaches in the long run
