So this is purely for rating threads? What do the stars mean on posts? Just an indicator of the quality of their content?

Yes
Stars on posts indicate what rating a user has given to a thread.
This add-on allows to rate threads only upon reply, requiring the user to additionally leave an opinion.

Is it compatible with XenForo's default message voting system? Or do they affect each other? They are both some kind of message voting system, so I think they should be considered together.

Compatible and do not affect each other
In this case, why should we use this instead of the default voting system? In the default implementation, the message with the highest number of votes can be marked as the best answer. What is the advantage of this? I'm sure every admin will have different goals for the addon, but I'm just trying to understand, so I think it would be better if this addon works together with the default feature in a way that influences each other.

Can't see the relation with voting for posts. This add-on is not intended to rate individual posts.
This one is for users to rate the thread (and display an overall score) with a five-point scale stars, and their rating for the current thread are displayed next to their replies. Threads can be sorted by overall score.

Standard suggestion threads do not force the user to leave an opinion and are limited to only one upvote/downvote.

Hello, great addon! :)(y)

Is it possible to make ratings anonymously? Apparently no, from what I saw in the screenshots and description.

Currently I'm having a node for movie reviews. A user post a thread about a movie review and one of the custom thread field is a star rating.

I would like other users to add their comments and rating on this movie by replying the thread.

Can I show a final rating by taking the average of ratings of all replies and the first posts rating?

It wasn't intended here to include a score from the thread's custom field.

But I can add tool to convert the custom field and the ability to rate the thread by author. Contact me in DM if interested.

I just tried installed the update and enabled the new anonymous option in the node permissions. When I checked "Anonymosly" for a test post, it still appeared to post under the username. Shouldn't the username be displayed as "anonymous" or something? What am I supposed to be seeing when anonymous is selected?

Also - when guest posting is enabled, would be great if you could have the "anonymous" checkbox, but then remove the requirement for the guest user to enter the "your name" field. Is that another possible tweak to make to this? 🙂

Edit: what you should really do is let the guest user leave the "your name" field blank (don't require it, as it is now). If left blank, and they click submit, then prompt to confirm they want to post anonymously. After confirmed, then proceed with posting review/rating under "Anonymous" username.

This option only hides the user's rating, not the post author
