[XB] Thread Chapters

[XB] Thread Chapters [Paid] 2.0.3 Patch Level 1

No permission to buy ($25.00)
I'm not entirely sure what's going on with the thread order here?

Those highlighted in Yellow have chapters, and the arrows indicate the expected order owing to the "Last message" order filter, and respective updates with chapters in the indicated games.

--EDIT--
It could be something to do with how I've merged it with another thread.. I'll look into it a bit more at my end.

--EDIT 2--
Nope, still confused.. 🤭

What if the "Overview" is the first chapter !! Is there any solution to cancel "Overview" ?!
This is a link to the main thread
I will add an option in the widget settings to disable it

@Ozzy47 @Painbaker - You're sorting by post_date instead of last_post_date where a thread doesn't have chapters on a 'Last message' sort..

Sent you the latest patch in the PM on snogssite

I was rummaging through some old downloads, and happened upon this:

I was wondering if something similar to this could be an option? 🤔

That was my suggestion. :D I really feel this should be in core, It has so many different uses and would greatly expand what we can do with xenForo.
Agreed.
I'll respond to your suggestion .... long story short, another way to go is more the Story is a forum and the chapters are threads. (You went the story is a thread, and you have "subthreads"). I can't decide if this suggestion is just a cosmetic difference or not.

(ill explain ... later ... :( work )

That was my suggestion.
yes, and I wanted to use this thread to drive people there :)

Xenforo LTD is clearly interested in different content structures ..... but we won't see anything new until after 3.0 is out the door.

Thread types are only a suggestion; if there's a better way to implement this I'm all for it. :)

I hear you! We should likely continue the discussion on the suggestion thread. I don't want to take this support thread too far off topic. :)

I just purchased this add-on and it's almost what I need!

Right now it's only possible to link up whole threads as chapter headers. I'd love it if I could link up a particular post within a series of threads to act as the destination for a chapter header.

My site has decades of news-related content, and in the old vBulletin days our mods and users got used to threads being split once they reached 1000 posts. I have some stories that span hundreds of threads, but I would like to call out the first post where an event occurred so the user can jump to that part of the story and not the arbitrary we-split-this-thread-cuz-it-got-too-big delineation.

Is there any chance this feature could get added? I would consider sponsoring it.

I'm proposing a new thread type (or types) for parent and child threads, similar to what this add-on does. It allows for a parent thread with multiple child threads. The child threads would serve as chapters or entries that can be commented on by other members.

On the surface this sounds niche, but I see a wide variety of applications for this feature. For starters:
  • Stories with chapters
  • Blogs with blog entries
  • Article series
  • Niche interest groups (like a lightweight clubs add-on)
Please upvote if you would like to see this feature. :)

Such a great idea.

I call this idea Thread Groups.

It's a superior way to group threads together than tags.

To me, If the "Parent thread" was a Page, we'd really be in store for something.

:)

It blurs the line between what is a forum and what is a thread. I think thread groups should be allowed to be created ad hoc by any poster, essentially by a new thread being created as a "sub" of another thread.

DM me if you'd like to talk about thread groups more.
