Won't find words with three letters

I just bought this and was hoping that people would be able to search for words with fewer than 4 letters. So I set the options to:

Search Minimum Word Length = 3

But when I search for a three letter word, I just get "No results found."

Am I missing something important?

No, I don't have elastic serach on the server. is that required to find words with 3 letters?

You can't use the add-on without first installing elasticsearch.
