Why Isn’t There a Large Artificial Intelligence Forum?

Artificial intelligence is growing rapidly, but there still isn’t a large and active forum dedicated exclusively to it.

Why do you think that is? Do people prefer Reddit, Discord, or Telegram? Would you participate in an AI forum? Do you know of any good ones?

Yes, there are some on Reddit, but hardly any outside of it.

I think it’s because people who use AI already turn to the AI itself to answer their questions, so it’s difficult for an AI forum to generate engagement.

Or maybe those people who actually like AI would populate the forum with ai garbage, which in turn would put off a lot of real members. I have seen this happen to forums that use an "ai assistant."

This doesn't surprise me. The people working on and with LLMs are mostly millennials and younger and they tend to favour things like Reddit and Discord over old school forums. That's been discussed on this site many times. My son and his wife are both computer engineers in their late 20s and I doubt either has ever set virtual foot on a forum site like this.

I advice you to join a few subreddits about AI, You’ll be gone before saying Artificial. The amount of low level quality and AI slop is ridiculous.

There's lots of very good AI youtube channels too, covering the use of it in general for various tasks, plus benchmarks and commentary for various models, both frontier and open weight. Some of the comments sections are far more active than many forum threads too.

I think people will fill it with AI that trolls the AI that trolls the AI discussion.
And then people will pretend to be an AI that trolls the AI that trolls the AI that trolls the AI discussion plus the people that watch those discussions.

Has in fact happened at the beginning of the year on something called "moltbook" that was created with the idea to create a social network for AI bots. It was launched at the beginning of the OpenClaw hype, completely vibe coded to below the lowest standards and therefore hyped on social media for about two days until the database with all account information got stolen and it turned out that all the "bots" that posted there the wildest statements were in fact real people that claimed to be bots/agents to troll other people. It was then forgotten about as quickly as it got hyped.

Yes, they do these days (sadly for forum owners)

I think the days of being able to start a forum about a new subject / game / whatever and have it be successful/ popular/ busy are long long gone

When it comes to AI i'm all for it being used wisely as in productively.
What i don't want to see it do is overmoderate like we see it on Reddit, Meta platforms, discord and a few others.
Overmoderation frustrates people.
It's the same when you overdo something in a room and people hate it.
I'd hate it being used for reports and other things.
