Which VPS?

I think it's about time I considered moving off shared hosting.

The site is getting busier and I think we're close to outgrowing our welcome on the shared service.

The host I'm currently with has this available as a basic VPS deal:
Disk Space 15 GB
Monthly Bandwidth 300 GB
Guaranteed RAM 512 MB
Control Panel £5
Parallels® Virtuozzo Containers Yes
Number of Usable IPs 2
Unique IP Address Yes
Root SSH Access Yes
Monthly cost £19

So the total per month, with cPanel, is £24.

Full details here: http://www.eukhost.com/vps-hosting.php

Servers are really not my area so I have no idea if that configuration will support the existing traffic (usually around 75-100 visitors) or whether I need something more.
Current disk space usage is 1GB and monthly bandwidth is 15GB.

I need managed and cPanel as I don't have the time or knowledge to maintain a server myself.

I would also prefer a UK based host.

Please don't suggest Linode as I don't want unmanaged.

Can you upgrade your RAM? What's your CPU share, and what CPU do you have?

On another note, it's a shame my new blade servers aren't coming until early next year. 24 cores.

I know you said you want a cpanel managed VPS, however I could suggest that you try 1&1 with their basic VPS.

Rather than cpanel it comes with Plesk (I can set you up a customer account to see how it works if you want, its more flexible than cpanel), and keeping it up to date litterally is as simple as logging in once a week and the automatic updates take care of the rest for you.

Otherwise, if your absolutely set on a managed solution, I suggest looking at rackspace.

Currently I'm on shared with no option to upgrade.

I had a short play with Plesk but didn't really like it.
I suppose over time I would get used to how it works, but time is something I don't have.

Hence why I need fully managed and cPanel.

Is that with eukhost by any chance? I've got 2 vps' with them and can't fault them. That should support your needs as your site is similar in size to one if mine

May I make a wild suggestion.

You do not need to upgrade to vps, check out www.vidahost.com who're a UK host based in Bath. The sell a "cloud" package which will easily handle your forum with bags to spare, the support is second to none. The cost is £9.99 a month and if you tell them I referred you they'll give you 10% off.

EDIT: I've been with these guys solidly for 3 years, you'd be hard pushed to find a better host.

I would check out Linode. I know you are looking for a cpanel and managed, but you might be able to get away with not having it. I am running 2 512mb slices (web server and DB server) and had 2+ years of uptime on them when I converter from VB to XF. I have been running strong since Aug 1 without a hitch.

Really, all you would need is a little help getting the server initially set up and then you can just let them run from there. I am at the point that I don't know what I would use the cpanel for anymore. A friend set up the servers for me and I did the XF install and once everything was working, he wrote a quick automated backup script so the site backs up every night to a amazon s3 (that I use for other things).

Feel free to check out my site. We are running close to the same amount of users, so it would give you a feel for the speed differences.

You might try to see if they'd upgrade some things as you're a long term customers, and most hosts will reward loyal customers.

If not, I'd suggest staying with them as you're already familiar with them, and if you have no complaints, there really isn't any reason to change hosting providers (Unless you've heard complaints about their VPS service).

You might want to try global gold, I've heard good things about them.

Mark.B, used to use them along with a good few others. However, the main guy that worked at Global Gold has now left starting up his own hosting company and many Global Gold customers have followed him leaving Global Gold behind. It's seems this guy was THE MAN.

Mark.B, is your best person to ask about this, they are UK based as far as I'm aware. But I don't think they come cheap and tend to specialize in "vBulletin" hosting from what I've seen and can gather.

Link (read this) https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/384140-Globalgold-Tim-Dunton-has-left

No don't use Globalgold now, as has been stated Globalgold was only good because of Tim and some of his people, they have now set up a new company Nimbus Hosting.

Nimbus don't just specialise in vBulletin, but also XenForo and other platforms too, as can be seen on their website.
" For example we have experience in hosting vBulletin, Magento, XenForo as well as specific customer specific applications".

Can't praise them highly enough, they are exceptionally good.

I've been with KnownHost since March as well. Highly recommended for a managed VPS. I've had a VPS for nearly ten years with multiple companies. KnownHost is the best out there. XenForo runs great on their VS2 plans and above.
