When we buy an old version, is the new version updated in a separate account?

Do you mean you're buying a third party license?

If so, once it is transferred to your account, you can purchase an upgrade to the latest version once it expires.

The license will need to have active support to be transferred to you so you wouldn't need to purchase an update until it expired.
