What's up with Firefox again?

Firefox is bad. I had no add ons when I tried to run it, and it crashed 16 times with 16G memory. Everybody and their mother has problems with it.

Friends don't let friends use Firefox. Plain and simple. It is a browser for people with a lot of time on their hands to restart it every 5 minutes.

Chrome uses less memory, and is suited for people of the 21st century

* sigh *

Do any of you know how many people post threads like these and almost 100% of the time the root cause is an add-on or other 3rd party program which has plugged it's self into Firefox?! A LOT.

AdBlocker Plus for example is heavy on both Firefox and Chrome if you enable all features (or if using the older version and have enabled all sources as well).

The last 2 people who told me Firefox was bad had either to many add-ons or an old add-on with so many bad reviews on it, that it was laughable. The issue was not, Firefox (same thing can happen to Chrome).

This is my current resources with 9 tabs open, while playing a YouTube video in the background. This is Firefox Nightly (trunk unstable build). I'm using virtually nothing in the way of resources.

Can get the 64 bit version here if you like.

I don't use adblock and as I said, I haven't installed any add-ons prior to this happening, but thanks for getting this thread on track again.

Does not need to be an add-on. It could be a 3rd party app or plugin (completely different from an add-on).

What anti-virus program are you using?
What malware program are you using?

Finally, what plugins do you have installed... IF you say none, you have no idea what a plugin is (it's almost virtually impossible to have zero). Silverlight, flash, java, ect... These are plugins (not add-ons).

Exactly. About 99.9% of these problems are simply user errors. Badly configured computers, tons of add-ons installed (many of them causing leaks and other problems) and similar things.

AdBlock+ *alone* takes about 100MB memory usage on a cold start Firefox and that's only with the most popular filter subscriptions - additional subscriptions may increase memory usage. These 100MB may further increase when the browser runs for a while

But people who do not believe it - here is a screenshot.

That's firefox running for about 3 days (no reboots, just hibernation). It has already consumed well over an hour of CPU time, which is quite a lot on a fast i7 CPU, so it's been running for a while.

Memory usage of about 300MB with just 2 tabs open isn't that dramatic and shows that Firefox nicely returns memory to the OS when tabs are closed (at some point, there were more than 50 tabs open for sure).

Add-ons active: AdBlock+ (yeah, without it, it would probably be around 200-250 MB), Session Manager, Stylish (no way to live without it) and Gmail checker.

No, I checked my plugins and none of them is the cause of this. For some reason, today it got worse. Now even without javascript sites load forever.

Firefox, for me, stopped loading pop-up's and thread view snippets when hovering over the pop-up down arrow or the thread title when the last FF update was applied. No plug-ins or the such as I only use Firefox to see how a style looks compared to other browsers. Google Chrome, Opera, Safari, and IE (go figure) works and displays everything the same (well IE font rendering just doesn't look right).

I dont think I could use Firefox anymore. I have to use it for dev/testing purposes occasionally and it just feels like crap. It's such a slow, clunky, bloated feeling application. It's a shame. It used to be great and saved all sensible people from having to put up with IE6/7, but then Chrome came along and saved us from IE8/9/10/11/<all future versions>

As mad as it sounds, the new Opera (which is essentially Chromium with extra stuff added) is actually pretty damn nice. Give it a try.

I agree with this. Opera is somehow underated, but after using it sometimes, I found it really nice.

Better than Chrome (which is vastly overrated, imho) for sure, but the old, classic Opera was even better in terms of customization options and general usability. If they just replaced the aging Presto engine with a webkit/blink based one and kept the UI as it was, it would probably be the perfect browser.

Firefox 29 got worse. Not only didn't it solve the issue from this thread but tabs are curved now similar to Chrome and the forward button is missing hidden.

Not sure when it started but firefox irregulary takes forever to load a page. I have pinpointed javascript as cause for this because when I disable javascript all is good. It doesn't happen on every site, mostly I think on news sites with lots of content. It doesn't happen here at xenforo. I haven't installed any add-ons prior to this happening. Latest firefox is installed (although it happened a version before). The error console doesn't show up anything javascript related for some reason. Browser cache is empty. Other browsers work.
Any ideas?
I'm using firefox now. I have no problem with it. It might just be you having to update a few settings.
You need to upgrade Javascript.
In fact I had to upgrade my whole operating system.
Just a quick question for you Luxus. How old is your computer? It might be that you need a new computer.

I haven't had any problems with it. In fact IE is worse and is full of bugs. If anything the only problem is with my computer is that it's old.

And it's got a security vulnerability right now, unless that's been patched already.
Exactly.
The best thing to do in that case is to make sure that you have got your anti virus software up and running and do a major scan of your computer.

Do you have an anti virus program on your pc? If not get one because it's obviously some sort of malware that is on your computer that is causing you grief with all of these problem.
