What do you guys think about discourse?

Interestingly Discourse has just laid off quite a large number of staff. They appear to be cutting costs at a time when take up of the paid product looks quite healthy.

If I recall it correctly they did the same thing last year as well when they laid off 170 employees which was 17 percent of their workforce at the time.

one of the popular tech community here in india techenclave moved to discourse a while ago i noticed this week. i read that users were not happy initially but it remains active and appears to have better tools for their classifieds and other sections. i guess they saw the value in getting away from xenforo and switching to discourse. i personally find it harder to use and have never gotten used to communities powered by it.

It's a shame that instead of being plainly honest, they dressed it up with euphemisms such as "saying goodbye" along with plenty of flowery language about how this is a good thing.

Still, I find it positive from them, being transparent and really communicating to their customers.

That's not what I see. I see pre-emptive damage control, and an attempt to control the narrative, for what would have been made public almost immediately by those fired had they not said anything.

I'm also not a fan of this overly wordy version of doublespeak.
But i just don't like their software, how it works, or the problems the programming language it's built in has.
