I am looking to buy a VPS, is it hard to configure one and install applications i.e php , mysql, etc? I am used to cPanel so the guy who is hosting my vps does everything for me as I have never done it before but hes very slow and not responsive so am looking to get my own and manage it all myself. Before I buy one, is it hard?

If you've never set up a server before, I suggest buying the service now and spending the next few weeks (or months) learning, before you switch over.

It takes care of everything. There is a learn curve, but I would say 2 days max. Normally a setup would take 1 hour max so that a XF forum would run on a centminmod setup, but as you are new, you have to spend a bit time to understand shell access and such things.

It has its own forum and the owner of centminmod @eva2000 is a regular user here and very active on his website. So if you needed help, I am sure people over there will help you out, just like they did help me out various times.

And yes, it does explain everything (almost). It has various guides for various things, but your main thing is to install centminmod first on your server, and this guide is linked in the main page, but here the link again.

Well i do, by following a guide online but im trying to type and theres a green bit and it just won't type using putty for windows

You have to use the IP address you got from your VPS provider. It will ask you for the root user and the root password, then you are in. If it is the password bit, it may look like you can't type in but it just sensors the password. Once you type the password and press enter, it should work. (or use right click to paste the password).

Keep getting access denied even though I have repeatedly tried. Even double checked the password.
