XF 2.2 Viewing of attachments and the file upload button

Hi there,

I want registered users only to see thumbnails as a tease to pay a small amount to view images full-size. I changed the "view attachments" permission for the usergroup Registered to no and this displays thumbnails to that usergroup. The problem is that registered users then (globally) no longer see the upload attachment button even though I have the "Upload attachments to posts" set to yes . To get the button back I obviously have to allow that usergroup to see full-size images which is kinda defeating the object.

Is there a way to restrict a usergroup to viewing thumbnails only but still allow it to upload attachments?

No.

Members have to be able to view attachments to upload them.

It's been a while but there is an update:

I, or rather Claude Sonnet 4.6, managed to create a fully-functioning add-on for 2.2 recently that adds a new permission allowing admin to switch the ability to view full-size images on and off for individual usergroups. The clever bit is that usergroups retain the permission to upload images regardless of whether they can see full-size attachments or not. It works perfectly on my forum. A pop-up alerts users when they click on a thumbnail that they don't have the permission to view full-size and I currently use that to direct them to a payment page where they can pay a small fee.

After I installed the addon and tested it I asked Claude for a clean distributable version with installation notes. It would be a useful resource for others who need this specific functionality. However, I can't code. This is all Claude's work with me just doing the questioning and testing. All I know is that the addon works on my forum. If any coders would like to view the files and test-install the addon I'm more than happy to send the zip. Ideally someone could then post the addon as a free resource?
