This is the second reminder in as many weeks of the old vBulletin days for me - had a Xenforo server optimization client I was working on and turns out they were an old vBulletin customer I had helped out over a decade ago when I was working in vB support(beyond bothering @eva2000 every few months for database and server tweaks) but followed along on some busy thread containing modifications I needed.
Well probably for the best anyway. From my experience, being one's own boss and having the freedom to make the big decisions, is well worth it compared to having to listen to other folks (especially folks who don't have a clue) and make money for them rather than yourself
As folks stated, a lot of Xenforo customers came over from vB so it's safe to say the vB to Xenforo importer routines are well battle tested to work
With that said, I recommend you do test migrations on a copy of your live vB data until you're happy with the process for the live migration run.Crazy but yes not unexpected. I can't see myself using anything other than Xenforo for forums

Never looking back. XF2 is just so much better than vBulletin. So was XF1. For a developer it’s actually a great experience. I have developed a lot for vBulletin and it was all hacking and battling. When moving to XF2 it’s a breeze. You actually feel welcome in the codebase. It encourages you to extend and modify it. It’s really great.
My migration was a little difficult because I had a lot of features and extensions. A lot of them made by me. I had to migrate that stuff too and write add ons. But it’s worth it.

I migrated my site from VB and am so glad I did. You will be amazed at what you can do with a XenForo site with the software they have.
I am not sure if I am allowed to mention the hosting company I have but they did everything and are very attentive to your needs.
Price is right and anytime I ever had to contact them they answer right away. My site has never gone down using this company

A site of which I was a member was literally dying from endless VB5 bugs, including inabilities to logon from various devices and the random malfunction and outright disappearance of many features and functions. The administrator, who had a full time job, couldn't keep up with the avalanche of problems and complaints, and the constant third party IT costs had become unaffordable.
I volunteered to research alternative platforms and costs and to make recommendations for change. After studying various sources, including this site and digitalpoint.com, I recommended a migration to XF. My recommendation was accepted, and I was rewarded by requests to become the new administrator.
To me, that was like asking a tractor driver to pilot a space ship. Fortunately, I had also recommended that we hire an XF expert to perform the migration and become our new web host and service provider. A member here, @MySiteGuy of Driven 2 Services, was our choice and he has provided excellent service, sometimes with saintly patience.
The journey has been like Dorothy's from Kansas to Oz. Everything works with XF. Nothing is broken. No service has been needed. All costs are way down. All the members happy. No complaints. I've even learned what some of the switches on the spaceship do, sometimes with swift help from this site.

I have switched from phpBB to Xenforo, and i had to write only one little sql script to migrate the likes.
And that only because likes where at that time not out of the box available for phpBB only as addon.
For anything else the out of the box migration tool of XenForo worked like a charm.
And if you have troubled, any custom things or are just to lazy, I think there is a migration service from XenForo self.
Else I can really recommend Themehouse for any kind of jobs relating XenForo.
