vb5 beta released, and...

The more I visit the vb5 demo site the more I dislike it, on the surface you might be fooled but once you dig in it's truly a disaster. I'm not trying to be negative either, this is just how I perceive it. This is not beta nor alpha. This should be on one of the developers computers, still a work in progress long before going public. And they're actually selling this. Unbelievable. It does one thing: make you appreciate what you have, whether it is XF, vb3 or IPB or even phpBB. Anything is better at this point. XF wins hands down in the forum department though.

Wait, actually forget what I said above, just fix a few bugs and declare it gold IB, it looks about ready to sell, and you want to make money after all not waste any more time. (y)

I tried it again today and still didn't get on very well. It seems to want to load a lot of content I don't want with each page view then "hide" it behind a tab. On a brighter note, my own (Xenforo) forum seemed blazingly quick after spending 20 mins on vB5 :)

I just discovered something new... Apparently vBulletin changed their licensing agreement and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. You are now no longer permitted to transfer the software. Someone discovered this and raised it in the forum. When I went to purchase the software to see the license agreement, I couldn't find the licensing agreement. I looked to the footer of the page and used the one I found there which simply says that no transfer is allowed. I'll bet 99.99% of customers, especially those who had been using vBulletin for 10 years with the same license, would never have discovered this change of licensing for VB 5.

Makes sense, IB wants more shiny moneeeeeeey.

VB5 is a joke for true community software ... This is a beta version and all seems more like a pre-alpha because they are bad and not be aware of causes updates VB5.

Also what bothers me is they are charging to test a beta version that is very bad (I think I can do better software than VB5 in a day). And users with licenses are discounted is practically an insult to them ...

Do not understand why they released this beta, should wait long for VB5 has everything needed to be tested for beta-tester ... but who knows maybe they did this and then surprise us with great features and systems (May God hear me).

If they can't release something good, the least they could do is release something that works. I get errors on nearly everything I click.

Then there's the pricing structure.

So much for everyone "flocking to vB".

Silly Softlineck, you give IB too much credit.

Internet Brands doesn't want to waste their time and money on beta testing or fixing bugs for vB4.
To make more money, the idea is to use customers as alpha testers.
And to be 100% clear ... you'll never see them use their own software (vB4, vB5-alpha) as they know it's too buggy and provides ZERO benefit over the vB3 that all their increasingly antiquated sites are on.
Welcome to reality.
;)

The license agreement also says EU members CAN transfer a license, but it doesn't say how many times, so it seems to imply you can do it multiple times, as long as you live in the EU? Odd

Anyways, here's the latest poll results, not good for VB/IB

Another Fail.

I was logged in check my Alerts (which suck, BTW)(Jeez IB ... just copy Xenforo ... they showed you want to do ... IB just copied Xenforo) ... and then clicked on the Home Page ... and got logged out.
LOL.

It's like they aren't even trying.

I just thought of something while catching up on the topic of the this thread here.....

It is surely funny when someone tries to cut someone else off at the head...and then runs around like a chicken without one...

Anonymous has found a security flaw in vBulletin 5

While I may get a lot of hate for it and I a lot of "nay sayers" for it.... I've decided not to release that information.

Why?

1) Because Internet Brands didn't listen to me when I pointed one out on vBulletin 4 and it took a few innocent sites to be hacked before they pushed out a patch release

2) I really do not feel good with the idea of helping such a company and have no true sympathy for anyone foolish enough to get in bed with them.

So have at it. I regret nothing.
