Implemented vB-alike Notices System for xenForo

I would dearly miss the great Notices system that vB3.8 comes with. If you guys can implement something like that (and improve it, like we have requested here for so long ), it would be truly awesom.

A sophisticated Notices System in xenForo can be used for example to show new members how certain functionality works in xenForo. You know, if it would be possible to check for example on certain conditions like 'has the user uploaded his/her own avatar?' or 'Did the user ever used the private conversations feature?' ... then the software could display a help text (with guiding images) to explain to the user how to do it! We have suggested this many many times overthere at vBulletin, but it was never picked up.

Nevertheless, just a basic vB3.8 alike Notices System would make me very happy! Who's in? :)

Edit 16/02/2011: It is also important to me and my staff that Notices can be constructed using the wysiwyg-editor. It is a complete pain to construct Notices in for example vBulletin if you want to use some markup: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show...quot-system.?p=1730503&viewfull=1#post1730503. For admins/mods who don't understand or don't want to use HTML, the great wysiwyg is/would be a life and time saver for constructing Notices!

Reminder: If you think this should be default functionality in XenForo, the please [like] this first posting! Thank you.

So notices only work for people who visit the site ?

Administrators can now set up custom notifications that will appear underneath the navbar when visiting users fulfil specified criteria.

For example, one may want to set up a notice to display when a user is a member of a particular usergroup, or to show a congratulatory message when a user has posted their 1,000th post etc.

Is this a NavBar notice ?

vBulletin.navbar.notice.webp

I found it pretty effective.

Some people are creating pages that are only visible to guests, that also could be done to only show pages to registered members that have not made a post yet.

Did not occur to me until someone else posted about that.. Just in case someone is reading this thread might need some ideas.

I just added this to the first posting:

i like to use notices for things I used to use a sticky thread for. being able to target them to different usergroups, different forums, and the ability to have them run for a set time or be dismissible makes them very powerful while not annoying members like a stack of stickied threads might.

I'd like to see controllerAction to be included to ad a THIS_SCRIPT type of option when setting up the notice too. i always found that handy when wanting to add notices to my custom pages.

Have anyone here use Stack Exchange before?
They have some nice top notification which you can click to close. It's small and spans the whole width. I think it's very noticeable.

It would be helpful to have XF recognize that someone has registered, but not verified their account and throw up a custom notice that admins can create. We all know how difficult it can be to get email through to certain ISP's. A notice informing this group to contact via email to get activated would go a long way. I know it works great in vB.

It already does that.

This is the message members who haven't confirmed their account will see when they log in:

I would love to see an add-on for a notice system in Xenforo. We used this feature for many different reasons and has been very valuable to our forums in particular... will miss it greatly

That's impressive, it's a great endorsement for Xenforo that a company as big as Playfish are willing to use it as their core forum software. Over 500K members with nearly 10M posts? That's a great endorsement!

Anyway, notices was always one of of VBs best features, it just worked which was quite surprising. If something similar, but enhanced was introduced here then that'd be great.

Ask any ye shall receive !

It seems people were requesting something as good as vBulletin for notices.
Well, they got their request ... and a WHOLE LOT MORE !!!

Yesss! This suggestion is now in the TOP-2 of most liked Bigger Feature Suggestions. Coooool....

Notices was, IMO, hands down the best part about vB past the 3.6 series.
I also use the Notices system extensively on my forum.
Oh yes, notices are very important in my forum too, it's a must have
Notices are much needed.
Please implement this in core.
