I'm thinking one of these may be possible using custom user fields (maybe), but I need a starting point to get it working, if anyone would be nice enough to help 
Basically, what I'm looking for is
a) A progress percentage bar, where the user could input x % out of 100% for where they are on their current project and it display in a horizontal bar format on their User Info and/or profile page
b) A Daily Word Count feature, which also adds up their count over time periods gives a running total for week/month/year - to display on a profile tab.
Hopefully that makes sense.
