XF 1.5 User getting emails when he shouldn't

I have a user complaining that he is getting email notifications, but all those are unticked in preferences.

Nor has he ticked to get emails in any watch forum or thread dialogue box.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

He must still be watching a thread (or forum) with email notification or it's an email that's been stuck in a backlog. There's a link in the email he can click to stop all emails. If it's a watched thread, he can also use the "managed watched threads" on your equivalent URL for this page to stop emails.

This is what I thought but he's adamant he has not ticked any email notification for watching.

is there any way to ascertain if a watched forum/thread is watched via email or just alert?

When you manage the watched threads/forums, it should mention if an email is to be sent. Otherwise, the email should make it clear what specific element was the trigger (a forum or a thread) based on the wording within.

Is there a link in the navigation to https://xenforo.com/community/watched/threads/all. The link to watched threads just goes to unread watched threads and there is no indication of email or not on that page.

OK, well this is odd.

I mentioned all this to the user, who says his preferences have been email off for a very long time. he also said he has never watched a thread specifically (apart from auto watching by replying) and has never even seen the dialogue box you get when you click on Watch.

And yet some threads showed as email in his thread manager. It does sound like user error, but from what he says I have to give him benefit of the doubt. he specifically doesn't want emails, so unlikely he would purposely click on that in a dialogue box he says he has never seen.

I've asked him to monitor it from now, ie when he replies in a new thread to then check the watched threads manager and see what it says.

Click "manage watched threads" and there's an option to disable email notification for all of them.
