Is there a way to create a searchhandler which uses own tables?

I have many custom add-ons which i want to make searchable without having to import the existing data into the indextable.

Is this possible?

Yes - look at the difference between 'query' and 'metadata' when the system is building its search parameters. Metadata goes to the index, query goes to the data tables.
