Updated to PhP 5.4 broke the forums

Today I updated to PhP 5.4.38 and now my forums are not working. It throws a DB error.

An unexpected database error occurred. Please try again later.

I needed to upgrade to get another thing on my site working but I also need the forums. Is there anyway to fix this?

Ah, thanks I never knew that. Is there a PhP mysql extension? I hired a guy to setup my VPS last time.

EDIT1: Just tried "yum install php-mysqli" is there anything else I need to do?
